Fresco Stainless Steel Coffee Percolator

Fresco Stainless Steel Coffee PercolatorIt's a good quality coffee pot, but it's so air tight that you must lift the lid a little to let air in while pouring so the coffe comes out freely. This could create a problem because the lid could fall off while pouring. That has not happened yet to me though. Also, it's a little tough to brew the full 12 cup capacity because as soon as it starts to perculate, the coffee shoots out the spout. You would have to have the flame on the stove just right for it not to happen. So I usually only brew 10 cups to prevent this from happening.

I bought the Fresco Stainless Steel Coffee 12 cup Percolator and the Farberware Classic Yosemite Stainless Steel 8 cup Percolator for my RV. The intent was to have a larger percolator for when we had guests and a smaller percolator for just the two of us. They are, however, exactly the same size. The Fresco Stainless Steel Coffee Percolator actually only makes 8 cups, unless you're counting european sized cups. Secondly, the Farberware is superior in quality and is just over half the price. I had to make significant adjustments (including buying hardware) to the Fresco Percolator to keep the handle from breaking off. Now that I've made the the repairs, I use it as the backup to the Farberware in my RV.

The good this Fresco percolator has a stylish design and the overlapping edge fits around a standard stove eye. Probably not the best thing for a ceramic top stove though, because it wouldn't make full contact. Should work well on gas stoves.

The bad the narrow lid doesn't leave much room for an efficient coffee basket and it's a close fit to get one's hand inside for cleaning.

Amazon sells a more functional percolator than this with a wider lid and larger basket.

I can't believe it the top of the coffee

Pot cracked after 5 usages. Wasn't the product tested before putting it on amazon for purchase. The order was not cheap,I am so disappointed with this product.

I bought this Fresco percolator a few years ago...

The brushed finish was not even, small un-brushed spots could be spotted from across the room.

The pot has no graduate markers so you can not determine how many cups to make.

The brewing basket has sharp edges, if in a hurry when washing the basket and basket lid you could cut yourself. I had an old coffee ground basket from a old DeLonge electric perk and have recycled that basket into this Fresco percolator, works perfect.

The bottom of the percolator has a slow leak at the point where the botton is attached to the kettle. I kept wondering why there was a brown ring on my stove top burners overflow catcher. I've never had the pot overflow because I have a thermometer probe in the spout, when the water starts to boil the thermometer rings and I turn down the flame to a slow simmer. Okay, the leak is not a big problem since at the rate it does leak it would take months to empty out, it is just annoying. Sometimes the leak area gets plugged up with dried coffee but, once a month I boil a tablespoon of Oxiclean to clean the pot and basket, that makes the inside look like new, maybe if I did not clean it the leak would stop. American workmenship pride is disappearing.

I did replace the plastic see through on top of the lid with a glass type, just for looks if anything else, I bought the glass replacement from amazon dot com but found out I could have save shipping if I would have gone to Ace Hardware.

Now for the Fresco coffee maker, I like percolated coffee better then Mr. Coffee and/or the French press, I still use the Fresco every single morning so I can not be too dissatisfied with it.

The pot cost more now then a few years ago, that is inflation for you.
