Previous reviewers who had worked as coffee professionals enthused that the Norpro frother produces thicker, creamier froth than even the most expensive expresso machines -and they're right. There couldn't be a handier and more effective little kitchen aid.

1. I don't drink cold coffee drinks, so I have no advice about that, but for best

results with hot froth, you must have a microwave. Pour in a very small amount of cold milk, lightly hold down the pumper with one hand to stabilize it and pump for 20 seconds with the other hand, and then place the beaker (without the metal pumper, of course)

in the microwave for 20-40 seconds, and watch the froth rise, rise, rise. Keep a close

watch because it can overflow easily. The froth is so thick, you have to take it out with a spatula!

2. Cleaning: What's the big deal? When you're done, rinse it out immediately with hot water. For a solid scrub, pour hot water and a little detergent into the beaker, and use the pumper to create suds and give the glass and metal a good clean.

3. Fragility: Duh, it's glass. Honestly, people go on and on about this, but I cannot

see what the problem is. Be. Careful.

I purchased this frother thinking it may or may not work. I usually make froth using my cappuccino machine. I thought a frother would be great, but could something this simple really work? Yes, it does!

The instructions say something like you should use hot or cold milk, not warm milk (if froths better); I have used skim milk strait from the frige and it works great. Pour milk in, cycle the plunger about 30 times, and then you have great froth. This is easy to do, with a great result.

Cleanup is easy, I rinse and let sit; when I use it the next morning I rinse again before use.

Materials: rubber foot, glass carafe, metal top, metal rod, plastic frothing disk, metal screen, plastic ball on top. I see the plastic frothing disk and I think this will wear out with use, I see the plastic ball on top does not unscrew, will probably come off at some point. I am not dishwashing this unit to try to increase its life. I would guess this unit will last me 1-2 years; when it fails I will buy a replacement that is totally metal and glass without any plastic parts.

I purchased this milk frother as a replacement for a Bonjour frother that had lasted me close to 10 years until a small part broke and I could find no replacement. I should have bought another Bonjour! For about $24, 10 years is a pretty good track record. The Norpro is flimsy and the plunger does not fit in the carafe tightly enough, hence little to no froth, no matter how many times I pumped it. I would not recommend this frother to anyone! Instead, buy the Bonjour. It is sturdy and well made and froths milk beautifully with little to no effort. The Bonjour costs only 3 to 4 dollars more and is available Amazon Prime. I received it in 2 days as promised. Excellent product, excellent price and the usual outstanding Amazon service!

The product looked very nice when I received it and then I used it. I used it three times and the motor bagan to smoke. I unplugged the machine and let it cool off and it would not work after that. I messed up and threw the box away after the coffee grinder worked so nicely the first time so I just pitched it in the trash.

DeLonghi BCO130T Combination Coffee/Espresso Machine

2/15/07 Received coffee maker with minor outside box damage but eveything seemed intact. Made several pots of very good coffee and espresso but after 4 days the main switch and digital readout went crazy and the water heating element for the coffee side refused to turn off. I had to unplug the unit fearing a fire. I am returning the unit to Delonghi. I will review the new unit after I have had it for a while.

4/2/07 I recieved the new unit in good condition and set it up with some trepidation (see earlier review). All the functions work fine and the coffee/espresso maker has been chugging along fine. It has made more than 50 pots of very good coffe and about 30 pots of espresso that even my Cuban colleagues enjoy. Based on my experience with the new unit so far, I would increase my rating to 4 stars, however Amazon will only allow one review per person.

7/15/08 When I first started using this product, I must admit that I was impressed. It packed a lot of funtionality in a reasonably priced product. I have now had this machine a little over a year and I can no longer use the coffee side of the machine because it leaks water all over my counter. Since it was out of warranty, I disassembled the machine to find out what was leaking. There was a fitting at the top of the machine where the water was pumped from the reservoir to the sprayer. I could not take that fitting apart because all of the screws were rusted completely. They just fell apart when I tried to unscrew them. I would think that a company such as this could afford to spend a few extra cents per machine to put in stainless steel screws! Is this another example of planned obsolescence? Based on this experience, I would downgrade my rating to one star.

12/18/09 Well now a little over a year after the coffee side went belly up, the expresso side has now bitten the dust as well. Into the trash bin it goes. Wow! for $150 you would think you should get more than two years use out of a coffee machine. DeLonghi... Never again!!! Definately downgraded to one star, if that.

I loved this coffee maker for the first 11 months...then it broke (leaks water EVERYWHERE). Delonghi customer service is awful! This item was a gift, and they are refusing to repair the item and they require me to ship it to them at my cost -not reimbursed. This is one of the most frustrsting consumer experiences that I have ever dealt with, and the Delonghi reps whom I have spoken with have complete disregard for the situation. It is sad because this has the potential to be a great product, but it is not backed-up by the manufacturer who is making repair or replacement impossible. Buyer beware...

Last December I bought the BCO-130T machine. I thoroughly enjoyed it the coffee it made and the very good espresso and cappuccino. It worked fine for awhile. About June/July it started leaking water from the bottom of the machine. I called the suggested repair facility in Virginia. As soon as I started to explain the problem to the owner, he told me the problem and that it was common and the machine would be replaced. I sent it in for repairs. Well that process took about 8 weeks, an absolutely ridiculous amount of time.

I finally get a replacement and now a couple/few months later this new machine is also leaking. So now I am two for two of machines that are defective and do not work. Although I have "had" the machine for about 11 months I have not been able to use it but about 8+months.

I have no confidence whatsoever in going through the process again not to mention that I will again have to pay shipping and be without a coffee maker for weeks. To spend ANY more money on this inferior product would be throwing good money after bad.

Makes a good cup of coffee and the espresso machine part is easy to use and does a good job. I really like the built in milk frother. As long as you rinse it right away it is easy to clean and makes perfectly frothed milk everytime! The 1/5 feature allows you to make a half a pot of coffee that still tastes good.

Few things that could be better but overall a very good machine.

The weak points are:

1. Instructions are so-so, not as direct and to the point as they could be if this is your 1st cappuccino machine. After a few brews, you should finally get it all down pat.

2. The carafes do not have hinged lids so they are a pain to use. Having had many coffee makers in the past, I was surprised to see this on an 'upscale' coffee maker. If you pour to quickly, they tend to spill coffee on the counter.

Now for the good part, once you figure it out it makes excellent coffee and cappuccino. I'm a coffee drinker but my wife prefers cappuccino. So she decided that a combination machine would be a great Christmas present rather then a separate machine because it would take less counter space. It is an added bonus that it can make both at the same time. We researched a lot of machines before landing on this one and are both quite happy with the results. As I said, in the big picture, the complaints were minor and if we were to do it over again, we would still purchase this machine.

Update, After 5, count 'em 5 of these machines I give up. Cappuccino side worked well on all of them, frother did a pretty good job but sometimes would just not froth. Coffee side tended to prove the old saying about multi-function units not doing everything well. Every unit leaked water on it's way to the coffee. The repair place was about a 45 minute drive and would be without a machine for a few weeks, then a new one would appear. After a bit it would leak again. It got to the point where they just had me cut off the cord and return it, which was easier but still annoying. I offered to pay to upgrade to a better unit but was told nothing existed. They offered a model down without the frother but since that seemed to work just fine i saw no purpose in that plus reviews on that one said it was a leaker too.

Would have kept it for the cappuccino side but it takes up to much room for that so it's off to the re-cycle bin. Too bad, great idea, poor execution. We now have 2 units, take up about the same amount of room and do a much better job.

I didn't realize that buying a thermal coffee maker would be such a dramatic ordeal after reading all the reviews. I thought buying a machine would be straightforward... Alas, I finally ended up with this one.

Pros:

Krups brand

Simple to program

Solid carafe easy to pour (even with the weird lip and almost having to turn upside down it pours nicer than my glass carafe on my Capresso)

Keeps coffee hot and brews hot

Nice clean look

Water filter (and neat little change reminder on it)

No floaty ball thingy to clog up and force coffee all over

Water indicator easy to read and pretty cool

Quiet and no stupid beeps

Not so pros:

Filling with water does require a separate vessel. Not the end of the world, but it would be easier to just grab the carafe.

Carafe does not seal air tight so if you want coffee 5 hours later well, probably gonna leak out the heat (although after 4 hrs it was still pretty warm/borderline hot)

Had plasticy smell in first two brews seems to have gone away now

Pouring out the last bit of coffee does require holding it weird, but not a horrible disaster or anything

Overall, I'm quite happy. I looked at tons of reviews and different pots and this seemed to be most solid, simplest and best fitting to me. I've been paranoid about overflows that everyone talks about with the thermal pots and hope that is not the case with the Krups. So far so good, I'm happy.

I purchased this machine when there were no reviews, which I typically do not do. But my old machine died and we needed a new one. I have had other brands and Krups has never disappointed.

I gave it 4 stars because it is better than 3. I'd call it 7 out of 10.

My old machine was just that old. Perhaps 7-8 years old. I liked that it had the water fill line one the side and that the program/on/off buttons were manual rather than digital. This way I could leave it on timer all the time.

This machine has a very small water fill line/indicator. It only indicated 2 cups at a time. I used to like to brew 3 cups because that filled my favorite mug. Can't do that here unless you just guess.

The carafe is weird because when the top is locked on, it is in pour mode. To take it out of pour mode and presumably lock in the heat better, the top is not locked on so it could fall off or whatever. Not like it is on there tipsy, but I would think it is better to have it locked tight to hold in heat. This hasn't been a huge issue, but I find it curious.

The two timers are awesome if you don't have a consistent schedule every day. It has a wacky screen connected to the filter bucket that you pour the water through. Not sure the purpose of that.

I noticed one review after I bought it the carafe is not meant to pour in the water. You need to use a pitcher or something else. We have always used a pitcher to pill it up so this would never be an issue for us.

You can't go wrong with Krups. Probably on the expensive side, but it makes great coffee. When you are paying 12 or more per pound, you want a good machine to brew it.

It isn't perfect, but pretty darn good.

I almost drove myself crazy trying to find a new coffee machine after my original Hamilton Beach Brewstation started leaking after 7 years of daily use. The reviews on coffee machines are generally horrible and I chose this one simply because of the brand and the fact that it had NO reviews to psyche me out about buying it.

I have owned this machine for about 2 weeks now. It is an ok machine, with a few minor flaws.

The Good:

One problem I was having when finding a new machine: cord length. I returned 2 Cuisinart machines because the cord was too short to reach the outlet from where I needed it on the counter. This machine has a long enough cord, with length to spare.

It is a very nice looking machine and does not take up a lot of room on my counter.

It does not have a hot plate, which is comforting for me (no risk of fire).

The carafe keeps the coffee warm for quite awhile. I left ½ a pot in the carafe one morning, it was still pretty warm (not hot) when I arrived home from work around 5pm. This was WITHOUT pre-warming the carafe.

It brews FAST.

Love the dual timers, and the clock is very bright. Not crucial, but convenient.

The coffee is alright, not great, defiantly not bad.

The Bad:

As mentioned by other reviewers, the carafe/lid is just strange. The carafe has a round hole right in the middle of the top, there is no spout to pour. You can never get all of the water/coffee out without turning the carafe completely upside-down and shaking the carafe.

The water port is in an odd spot. I have to turn the machine to fill it, and you can't use the carafe to fill if you want a full pot, because of the carafe-spout issue. I usually use bottled water anyway, so I just pour straight from the gallon.

The Aroma mode makes HORRIBLE coffee, even with a small pot.

There is a SLIGHT amount of leakage at the hole in the carafe top when brewing, I think from when it first starts brewing and is pushing the steam through with high pressure. It has not been an issue and is very slight, and HAS NOT gotten worse, which is the case with most other machines I read reviews on.

It is over $100, which I do not understand. Reading coffee machine reviews made me realize that there are serious issues with all brands and price points. If I buy $100 shoes, they usually would be better quality than $25 shoes. I guess coffee machines are not like that :)

All and all, this is a good machine. Not great, but good. And considering I read every review of hundreds of coffee machines and they were AWFUL, this one seems to be alright. I loved my old Hamilton Beach Brewstation (which also gets horrible reviews), but this will be an adequate replacement.

Looks good on the counter, makes coffee quickly, and it tastes O.K., but apparently the designers never have used it. The water fill port is located under the popup lid near the right rear, and it is impossible to fill the tank using the carafe without spilling water on the counter. The proximity of the fill port to the open lid also makes it impossible to empty the last bit of water from the carafe because it hits the open lid. The only way I can fill the tank without spilling is to use a funnel. For the price of this machine, you would think that they would have thought of this.......but you be wrong.

Looks sharp. Makes great coffee. I'm able to hold the carafe and pour with one hand rather than have to fiddle with the lid and have to use two hands. That's great when I'm lying in bed reading the morning newspaper. The only drawback is the need to use a separate pitcher rather than the carafe to fill the water reservoir. It would be perfect if either the reservoir was removable or the opening to fill the reservoir would accommodate the use of the carafe to fill. I would rate it 5 stars instead of 4 if that was the case. Overall, I recommend this coffee maker.
