Jura 67083 Cool Control Milk Cooler

Jura 67083 Cool Control Milk CoolerWorks well, but works better with constant cleaning of the tube. If you are making a bunch of lattes at once, this is your machine. For just one person it might be overkill. I would give it 5 stars but after the power goes out it doesn't turn itself back on, so if you are not home you will have bad milk.

A colleague had ordered this and we both have nearly identical Jura automatic espresso machines. We both work from home, so I wanted something that would make my machine a little more automated.

I've purchased wine coolers and other machines which use the same type of induction technology, and I've been 'burned' by them all breaking down early, not keeping the right temperature, etc.

I've had this device for six months now and I'm still just as pleased with it as the day I unboxed it. Milk is truly kept cold consistently and it's incredibly quiet.

Cons: If you're a Skim milk drinker, and you wait a couple days before using it, I've noticed that the milk can sometimes freeze up or develop ice crystals. I've been able to mitigate this by filling the outer tank with barely just enough water for it to reach the brim when the container is inside of it.

Also, the tube can be a hassle to clean. Sometimes the suction power pulls milk through and lets it sit there in the tube. You have to be conscientious to clean it thoroughly after each use or each day.

I do some work from my home so the Jura Z5 is on most of the day. Milk used for froth of my cappuccino gets warm in the standard containers but this cooler takes care of the problem. It will keep milk in the low 30 degree area and runs quiet. It may seem a bit eccentric but I love it. The Amazon price is great, about $80.00 cheaper than buying it from Jura. Keep up the good work.

Overall, terrific and works as advertised. The minor complaint: the stainless tube attaches to the lid by means of a silicone "washer" it's not quite snug enough to keep the tube from falling into the milk container reliably. A seemingly minor fix if they would just make the silicone washer slightly larger. Not a deal-breaker, but worth noting. Also, you need to wash this container no less than once a week otherwise milk solids tends to collect in the lid which will impart an off taste to the fresh milk that comes through it.

I had always wanted something like this for my Jura S7 automatic espresso machine. It is much more convenient that steaming individual containers of milk, even though I am the only user each morning. I have only had it several days but have been satisfied thus far in its ability to keep the milk cold. One liter seems a lot, but once you have the dispensing convenience, it is surprising how quickly you can go through milk. It integrates nicely with the coffee maker and does not take up too much counter space. I tend to use the milk steamer and not the frother as the froth quantity is too much for my taste.

Pros: Finally I am able to make use of the Froth Express Plus feature; Convenience, especially for multiple single cups. I do not hear the fan that others complain about.

Cons: Condensation; Wish the cap was more like a thermos and clamped down on the entire device-this would stop condensation and keep the milk colder; matte finish is prone to spotting from liquid splashes-should be like the coffee maker finish which is easy to wipe; Large transformer block plug takes up plug space-beware.

Frieling Polished Stainless French Press, 17-Ounce

Frieling Polished Stainless French Press, 17-OunceI bought this smaller Frieling press because I wanted something just big enough to make one fresh, not over brewed cup of coffee or tea for both my girlfriend and I. It does the job very nicely. There is no plastic involved in its construction. Its all durable stainless steel. The double wall construction does a decent job keeping the water hot while brewing. The mesh does a good job of keeping loose tea and coffee grounds out of what I'm brewing. When you get yours, just make sure you visually check on how well the mesh seals against the inside of the pot. The first one I bought was defective in that way and I sent it right back.

I bought this for my wife, who likes to read the papers in bed with a HOT cup of coffee on weekends. After using glass French press pots for a while I didn't have much faith that the coffee would really stay drinkable for long but now I'm a believer.

First of all, this pot is beautiful to look at, the picture does not capture the modern design. It is also solid, especially the press mechanism (which typically breaks on cheaper presses). The mesh seems to be smaller than on other ones as well, so you get a strong cup of coffee without the grounds.

It's perfect for a couple of cups of really good, hot coffee in the morning, well made and pretty well worth the cost.

I don't know how many press pots I have gone through since I discovered that they are the ONLY way to make a really good cup of home-brewed coffee, but I wish I had found this brand sooner. Not only is it virtually indestructible, but it is also beautiful--imagine yourself drinking coffee with Lotte Lenya in Berlin or with Carla Bruni in Paris. I have never had coffee poured from a press pot as hot (just prewarm the Frieling with hot H2O while you grind your beans). The sreening device performs masterly--unlike some others there's no need to pour the coffee through a tea stainer to catch those escaped grinds. Well worth the price, the 4 cup makes one perfect large American-size mug of hot, never bitter coffee--what a perfect way to start the day! I also purchased the largest Frieling and it is equally as beautiful and lovely to use.

What is there to say about a bomb-proof piece of stainless? It's purty? And it is.....nice and shiny. Obviously, no "thermal" device will maintain an ingredient's high temperature for very long. And it doesn't. I didn't expect it to. BUT it's a big improvement over glass! That being said, it works very well for what it's designed for. I like it.

Bought this for someone else, but I use it all the time. 4 cups is overstated, more like 2 cups. Works well at keeping the grounds away from the coffee and is well insulated. Don't think you can make drinkable coffee with this and have it remain warm for hours, though. Comes apart easily for cleanup. I only wish that it came with an extra replacement screen or two.

Primula 18/10, Stove-Top Espresso Maker

Primula Aluminum 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Coffee MakerOK, since Amazon now has this policy of publishing reviews to similar items as though they were for the specific items (beware of this when you read reviews! Read the fine print at the top of the review!), I hope this appears for all of these similar espresso makers, regardless of brand, because it works in all of them.

I've owned several of these, different brands and different sizes, and have been somewhat underwhelmed with their performance. "Emergency coffee" is what I used mine for. So one day I was at my son's house and he made me this incredible dry cappuccino. I immediately went to his kitchen to see what kind of machine he had bought, and was blown away when he showed me his old, beat-up and stained "6-cup" espresso maker, just like the ones in these reviews. I asked him how he managed to get that kind of performance out of this thing and he said the secret is in ignoring the published instructions and pretty much doing the opposite of what they suggest. Here's his instructions:

1. Grind your coffee to espresso fine. If you don't have a burr grinder capable of this, buy your coffee in small quantities and have them grind it for you.

2. Fill the coffee holder to a bit over-the-top and then tamp it lightly. A shot-glass or anything else that fits into the holder will do.

3. Then proceed as normal: fill the boiler to the brass safety valve with cold, filtered water, screw on the top, and put it on the stove.

4. Leave the lid open so you can watch what's going on, allow the coffee to flow until it starts bubbling a bit but not so long that it will boil!

5. Pour off the most amazing cup you've ever experienced from your Primula (or similar) espresso maker!

I now use the Primula more often than my $500 Gaggia machine. Less fuss and just about as good. Not better, but just about as good, and that's pretty darned good.

I have not had the problem with the gasket that other have had. Maybe they are using too much heat or like several reviewers have said poor quality control. I paid $4.99 for my 4 cup at a local supermarket, it make better espresso than my Tassimo machine and I have a friend that has a $500 Nespresso and it is better than that too. (Although he won't admit it!) My wife lived in Italy for 13 years and says this little thing brings her back to those days. Two important ways to use this: Do not pack the coffee in, just heap around 5 teaspoons and screw shut. And also use med-low heat and wait it out, the result is much better.

I bought this espresso maker after owning 3 different makes that all failed when the handles broke away from the makers. I specifically bought this model because the handle is attached to the body at two points and so less likely to work itself loose. The handle performed beautifully! The metal lid, however, has developed a crack that runs along the entire surface! This I didn't expect to have happen and now I find myself searching for another maker before this one fails completely. I used this maker every single day, so it obviously has seen quite a work out and I have loved everything about it -taste of the coffee, ease of cleaning, ease of use in general, everything. I may even go ahead and purchase another one as I think it was very good value for the price (some of my other stovetop makers have cost more and lasted less), but I am frustrated at the fact that while it's engineered to solve one problem, it fails in another.

If you are an occasional espresso drinker who doesn't plan on 365 day/year performance, I would highly recommend this maker.

There are three coffee makers here that are being reviewed: a stainless, which is stainless by the way; a pot metal one; and a glass top one. They each have differences. The metal two use a different gasket than the glass top one and they only have one gasket. It is a traditional rubbery one and if burnt will stink. Don't burn them! And the glass top has three (3) gaskets. The main one is in the same place as the other but is silicon. The other two are in the top and I cannot find replacements. I would separate these reviews because the comments are confusing as they are. The three coffee makers are similar but not the same in many ways.

I too had the "stinky gasket" problem, and I was also able to solve it with the Bialetti replacement gasket. The interior had a rough finish with irregular globs of aluminum, suggesting that their factory quality control is poor, but that does not seem to affect the function of the coffee maker. When I was done, I had spent about $25, so this cheap espresso maker was no bargain. If I had to do it again, I would buy one of the products with a silicone gasket.

Ascaso SUBBVBR Special Edition Steel Uno Espresso Machi With Frothing Aid Attachment

Ascaso SUBBVBR Special Edition Steel Uno Espresso Machi With Frothing Aid AttachmentEdit: the machine shown is a newer and improved version of the one I reviewed, therefore my comments about temperatures probably no longer apply.

I've had this machine for a few weeks now. The Ascaso uno SE has the looks and the feel of a high quality, more expensive machine and I think it offers very good value for the money. However to brew great coffee with it is a fussy proposition for a couple of reasons:

A the temperature needs looking after or the espresso will be cold. The first cup in the morning is a throw away I just run it once without coffee and even then I always heat it a little more ( a few seconds) manually before every cup.

and

B Although it's supposed to have a pressurized portafilter it still requires the finest grind almost Turkish and heavy tamping or the water runs right through it. Forgiving it's not.

I'm ordering a non pressurized portafilter and also high quality grinder to go with it. I'm happy with it because I like the ritual tinkering and the result is worth it ... but that's just me. I'd definitely recommend it to some friends but not to people who'd prefer a semi-automatic machine.
