I have to be honestthe coffee tastes the same as if you made it in auto drip or a camp coffee pot. However, the fact that you get quite a show while brewing it at your table makes all the difference, It is very entertaining to perform. She has now repented and purchased the 5-cup version which I have to say is better if you have guests over as the 3 cup version makes about 2 cups of american sized cups of coffee. I definitely recommend the denatured alchohol. Do start with hot water so you don't wait as long. Also, leave the wick sticking out a little further than the directions recommend will make for a bigger flame and thus quicker boiling time. Cheers.

The best way to make coffee in the past has been with vacuum pots. The Yama 3 Cup Vacpot is just the right size for one American size cup of first rate coffee. Watching the action more than makes up for the several minutes it takes when using the alcohol burner to heat the water.

Yes, T.P LeMaire is right. You use ths maker with maxwell house coffee and You'll get a typical cup of cheap coffee. I don't know about trying to roast your own beans though.

Buy a good freshly roasted coffee and this vacuum pot won't dissapoint. And oh yea, watching it work is a interesting conversational piece.

If you are serious about coffee and in order to fully appreciate this device you must *NOT* use grocery store coffees.

Please, do yourself a favor and purchase green coffee and roast it yourself but thats another venture down big buck lane, better yet purchase roasted coffee from someone who roast and then ships immediately. You will never go back. BTW butane burner is a must.
