Chemex, in my opinion, makes the best damn regular coffee. I've tried french presses, vacuum systems, etc.; Chemex 8 Cup Coffee Maker CM 8A tops them all. And it's not even the coffee maker that is the key but the filter paper. Since the Chemex system was invented by a scientist, back in the '30's, I can only assume he was using some laboratory filter paper in his shop and figured out that was what was making his coffee taste so good.

As far as I can tell, Chemex filter paper removes the slightly sour/acid taste from coffee, that I find objectionable. This, in turn, lets through the complex bitter/sweet flavors and allows me to taste them more fully.

For what it's worth, I grind my dark roasted beans right before using them, grinding 6 cups worth for wife and myself. We've also made our own ceramic coffee pots that have the same size top, to hold the Chemex filters. Works just as well as the Chemex pots. Now, if I can just find an auto-brew device that can use Chemex filters for work...

I have been using Chemex for 40 years. I wouldn't change for the world. The BEST coffeeis made with Chemex filters.

The Chemex filters were fine of course. You need a Chemex coffee carafe to use them. I highly recommend this for any coffee lover. I have the 2 cup carafe which I use to make a large mug of coffee. It's a bit more time consuming that an automatic drip method but using the Chemex makes a far superior cup of coffee. Bold coffee flavor, no bitterness, just the right temperature. I ignore my plunger pot now in favor of the Chemex...every time.

These filters really work as advertised to take some of the acids, fats, oils and bitter flavor elements from coffee. I was skeptical of the manufacturer's claim, but have been a satisfied user for many years. The filter paper is somewhat heavier than other filters. That seems to do the trick. I just wish they were less expensive.

I love these cups... to the reviewer to said they were too small (did you mistakenly buy the espresso set?) --these are plenty big enough to brew a traditional cap. They hold 6oz of liquid EASILY and 7.5 with a tiny bit of room at the top. Bought 1 set for Christmas and am purchasing another because we are so pleased with the set.

I use this set every single day and I just love it. I have the DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Maker which by the way is the most wonderful machine. Two of these cups fit under it but I usually just use the one with a double shot into it. They are very sturdy cups and the holder is great next to my machine where like the other reviewer stated you can have the cups at your fingertips AND they looks great. The holder was a bit snug and when we put the cups in, it was hard for them to go down and stack correctly but it's pliable so we just used a little muscle and pulled the "spokes" apart a bit and it was just fine. This set is well worth the price. It's made very well and looks exactly like the cups and saucers we used in Paris.

This is a fantastic set of cups & saucers. Everything stacks neatly in the holder and is at my fingertips when I want to make a capuccino. Two cups fit underneath the spout on my capuccino maker perfectly. I am going to order another set!

I really love the design of this set and hoped it would had been a pleasant match to my espresso machine. However, there were huge flaws in the porcelain in two of the mugs. Obviously there was no quality control or else they would have seen this. Amazaon didn't offer an exchange option either, only a refund option.

This set is very awesome and very functional and I use it every day and I love it. I do however, have to tell everyone that you can get this same set at World Imports for $9.99. So for the $20 whatever bucks plus shipping you would pay to get it here . . . you can buy two at World Imports. (They also have a multi-color set which is pretty cute too)

Cuisaid Xpress-O Stove-Top 6 Cup Espresso Maker

Having used Bialetti stove-top espresso makers in the past, I was surprised to find that this "Cuisaid" maker does the job just as well, at 1/3 of the price. My review will focus on the differences and similarities between this model and the more expensive, more popular Bialetti. The quality of the construction does not seem to be as high as comparable Bialetti units, hence the four star rating.

Pros:

Almost identical design to Bialetti stove-top brewers, piece by piece.

I can't taste the difference in espresso between this unit and a much pricier Bialetti maker seems like a given if the construction is the same, but some metal pots or brewers can lend an odd aftertaste to a brew. Not the case here

Just like Bialetti easy to assemble, disassemble, clean and stow

Cons:

The filter holes seem just a hair bigger than in Bialetti models. No major problem, but does lead to a small amount of "dredge" at the bottom of the brew. Much less dredge, however, than you'd get with a screen press.

The aluminum seems lighter, less dense and less polished at the edges than Bialetti models. For the price, though, it's not bad.

Along with the metal quality, the handle seems less sturdy. Not a short-term problem, but I wonder how long it will hold up. I'll add to this review if I see it being a problem in the future. For now, it just seems less elegant and professional than a Bialetti.

Other:

Had a strange gel on the inside of the maker when I unboxed it. Clear and viscous, like a sealant or lubricant. It cleaned off no problem when I washed it before use, but I was somewhat puzzled to find it there in the first place.

Bottom Line:

This little Cuisaid espresso maker produces a good cup of espresso at a very, very low price. Though the build quality is inferior to more expensive models, it does not effect the quality of the coffee. I can't speak to long-term durability, but it seems like a very good budget espresso maker.

This is the first time I've used one of these. My espresso (pump) machine is about to quit for good and I wasn't looking forward to paying for a new one. The steam arm quit a long time ago, and I've been using a $4 hand-held battery-operated milk frother, and happy the espresso making part was still working. Since I already had frothing covered, I looked into this traditional espresso maker, to save money.

If you like "coffee", don't buy this. If you love true espresso, this is what you want. It makes the real thing. I don't even make it the "right" way, I put half of the amount of coffee it says to. I am thrilled to have spent far less money, get better espresso than my machine was claiming to make, and I get back counter space!!!!!!!
