West Bend 55108 3-in-1 Coffee Center, Black and Stainless

West Bend 55108 3-in-1 Coffee Center, Black and StainlessThis machine looks very nice and was built fairly well for the most part, BUT the cappaccino machine needs more steam power for the frother and the rubber piece they have over the froth wand is useless and the machine actually froths better without it. The coffee maker takes forever to brew and the pot and its lid are kind of cheap.

I would NOT recommend this machine.

I am a hard sell when it comes to coffee makers. Over the years I have bought and subsequently returned, or trashed, more machines than I can remember. I had actually gone back to brewing manuallly with the cone and boiled water. Then last February I was furnishing a new office. I desparately scoured the market once again for anything that had the basics of a good machine and that was not rediculously expensive. In a last ditch effort, and with very low expectations, I bought the West Bend at Walmart. I was very surprised! This machine gets it right. The water is hot enough, the caraffe is easy to pour and easy to read, the warmer is not too hot, all the grounds get soaked evenly, its fairly fast, and it does not spatter or overflow and it turns out a great cup of coffee.

The Espresso side does okay, too, although it did spatter and make a mess, (I haven't seen one in this price range that doesn't), it was easy to figure out, easy to clean, and it makes a decent latte.

I recommended this coffee-maker to my next-door-neighbor, she bought it and I have used it several times. Again, no problems, excellent coffee.

For the money, you can't go wrong with this one.

I found this product to be poorly made and flimsy. The espresso was more bitter than my previous machine and the machine itself clogged easily. I found that coffee of both types made with this machine was just a little funny tasting, perhaps because of the plastic or other materials used in its manufacture.

On the good side, the warmer plate for regular coffee was not very hot, but hot enough, allowing the second cup to taste almost the same as the first.

Well so far this machine has been great for the price, while the espresso isn't great it makes a fairly good mocha. It isn't a 3 or 5 hundred dollar machine, let's face it it wasn't even $50.00. I usually spend $5.00 or $10.00 a week on mochas so if I get even 6 months out of it will will have paid for itself several tiimes over. If you are looking for Starbucks either go to Starbucks or get yourself a $500.00 machine but if you are looking for a fairly good mocha or cappucino then give it a try.

For the price, the machine looks great and I was not expecting miracles just good coffee and occasional decent cappuccino. That said I was happy to read Miss Mary's review because the bitter taste the coffee has from this machine is amazing. First, I thought it was the water then the coffee after changing both and getting the same result I'm glad it was not just me. I plan to send it back today!

Bunn A10 Pour-O-Matic Coffee Brewer

Bunn A10 Pour-O-Matic Coffee BrewerWhen I was looking to purchase a new machine, I only was looking for a Bunn. Bunn makes the best coffee machines, none can compare. Every diner, coffee house, and Dunkin' Donuts only use Bunn machines. The A10 is one great machine! Brews perfect cups of coffee hot and quickly. Everyone in my office is very happy with the unit. If you're a serious coffee drinker, please don't cheap out on a Mr.Coffee, Braun or Krupps-frankly they cannot brew coffee at the speed, temperature, or taste of a Bunn unit. I bought the A10 to replace a Bunn unit that I used for 10 years without a glitch.

I've seen other Bunn brewers run years under constant use and never wink out. If you are looking for a constant use brewer, especially for an office setting, this is it. Don't skimp on a cheap, plastic Braun, Krups, or Mr. Coffee. This is an investment that will take the abuse of multiple office patrons.

It will not make a latte but if you want a good cup of coffee in less time it takes to brush your teeth this it it.

Ps. I have had other coffee makers that start with B and sell for over 100.00 and it just made it past one year. this Bunn will last many years to come and just think they make replacement parts. The last coffee maker I will ever buy thank you BUNN

Would you like to wake up feeling refreshed, and revitalized? Would you like feel like your rushed morning is just a little less hectic? You don't need a morning exercise video, you need the Bunn A10, the Bunn of Steel!

The Bunn A10 isn't just any old coffee maker, in fact, it isn't just any old Bunn. This Bunn is a professional model, which means, it is the same model you would find at a small IHOP, or Waffle House, or any other restaurant which has the need of a single hotplate coffee maker. The difference between this and MOST commercial models is that most can brew two pots (reg and decaf) at once, and have three hotplates. This one is more suited for home use, while retaining the commercial heavy usage capabilities.

This model isn't some modernized sleek brewer with a million plastic parts built to last for 2 years. This is a metal plated bad boy with few working parts, and a mechanics sensibility in design. The metal spray head is replacable, and they have plastic ones for hard water. The heater unit has its own power switch in addition to the on/warmer/off switch.

Bunn's brew fast by keeping a reservoir of water hot at all times, and the water you pour in today will be tomorrows hot coffee. The taste of the coffee is superb, but it takes more grinds to get it strong. The carafe you get with this unit is not the one pictured, which looks just like the commercial carafes, which was a bit of a disappointment at first. The carafe is the NCD decanter, which is more drum shaped and has the flip up lid. This is better for home use, as we found out later, since it is very easy to clean.

If you are looking for a coffee pot built like a tank, built to last, which makes great coffee quick, saving you precious morning minutes, I would say look no further. You have found your machine.

Highly recommended.

Detailed Commentary

I recently received delivery on my Bunn Model A-10 coffee brewer. This is the pourover model, not the automatic. I purchased it for my home kitchen.

Out of the box...

Weighing in at 14 pounds, this is no lightweight machine. The unit was delivered directly from Bunn and I found it to be packaged tight with nothing broken. When I placed it on the kitchen counter, all I could think was "this thing is all business". Yes, it is a categorized as a commercial unit, however, it is not industrial looking like the Bunn unit you would see at your local coffee shop. It is civilized and stylish. There are no color choices. Black and high polish steel with an almost chrome appearance, Bunn logo up front. There is a very visible warning label behind the decanter which reveals it's commercial heritage, but it is easily removed if desired. Although the unit is only 6.75 inches wide, it is 13.5 inches deep. This takes up a good 2/3 of a standard countertop depth including room for the cord. It is a very serious piece of hardware and sure to be a topic of conversation when guests arrive.

Set Up...

As the instruction manual warns, you cannot plug the A10 in immediately and start brewing. The internal tank needs to be filled with water prior to powering. This water remains in the unit at all times. The manual calls for 2 full pitchers of water and remainder will run off from the sprayhead. Once plugged in, the vacation switch is powered on. This switch remains on unless you plan to be away for several days or more. Then the warmer switch is turned on which controls only the porcelain warming plate. There is no auto shut-off feature, so you need to shut it off manually. Within 10 minutes the water in the internal tank reaches the proper temperature for brewing which, according to the manual, is approx. 200 F. I have not verified that temperature...yet.

Time to Brew...

Ground coffee is placed in the brew funnel and slid into place. The brew funnel is sturdy plastic, one-piece design, but I believe a stainless steel funnel would have better complemented the overall construction of machine. There is no "start" button or switch. You had better have that decanter in place. Once the water is poured into the screened opening on top of unit, brewing starts immediately as there is already water at 200 F in the brewer. The new water poured into machine is in turn quickly heated in the internal tank. Measurements are somewhat confusing. The clear plastic water pitcher supplied with brewer has graduations measured in 12 ounce increments, total of 48 ounces. The increments on the glass decanter, however, are measured in 2 cup increments, total of 10 cups. I calculated each cup measure to be 5 ounces. Depending on the strength of coffee you prefer, it takes some experimenting to get it just right.

Taste...

Bunn A10 brewer $230.00. Great tasting coffee Priceless.

The hefty price tag paid was worth while. Very smooth, rich full bodied taste is achieved with no bitterness, just like my local coffee shop. I believe the secret lies in the five-jet stainless sprayhead which evenly saturates the grinds, proper water temperature and tried/tested design. No disappointments and highly recommended.

Jura 13422 Impressa C9 One Touch Automatic Coffee-and-Espresso Center, Black

Jura 13422 Impressa C9 One Touch Automatic Coffee-and-Espresso Center, Blackwe've had an S9 Jura for over 7 years and made over 6,000 coffees with it. It was a trooper and fantastic but sadly died on us so we wanted a replacement. I checked the specs for the S9 and C9 and seemed they were pretty much the same so for the price difference it felt living with a black and slimmer model with slightly less horsepower was a sensible trade-off.

The good;

1. Quiet

2. Small

3. Makes a nice cup of coffee (if administered well)

4. Button layout and customization is way easier than the old S9

The Bad

1. Black is not as attractive as the silver and also shows marks easier

2. Water filters are different sizes to the S9 (had a stock so that's a little annoying)

3. All the essentials feel twice as small as the S9 and a pain.. the milk container cannot even support two Lattes, the water container is too small and the coffee store is also.

4. The One-Touch button makes for a warm and hot coffee so is also a pointless feature IMO.

5. Fixed steam spout so with large cups it will be a pain to remove them without spilling

When we made a coffee with the S9 and new with the C9 we put the coffee in first, fill the milk and 3/4 up we switch to steam and give it a blast for the heat. This on either machine makes a fabulous coffee but negates the value of the one-touch.

If I were doing this again, I'd go for either a cheaper model knowing the one-touch is pointless and if budget is the concern OR I'd sucked it in and gone for the S9 for the added capacity.. For me I wish I'd chosen the S9 as the capacity thing will probably grind on me more than anything else.. but the above will give you an idea of variances.

All this said, I LOVE Jura, for the years we've had them, they're reliable, provide great service and well worth the investment. I'll begrudgingly live with the C9 knowing I made the wrong choice,.. Hope this helps your decision process..

I purchased this recently after I returned my unreliable Saeco V'spresso model. This machine has been much more reliable and makes excellent quality espresso/cappuccino with the push of a button. My favorite feature is the frothing system that allows it possible to make a cappuccino without moving the cup. It is much quicker than the traditional steam wand for lazy people like myself. Jura-Capresso seems to have much better customer service and warranties than its competitors as an added bonus.

This is my second fully automatic espresso maker. The first one was a Jura Espresso E8. They seem to have a life span of about 5 years with very frequent use -probably 10-15 single cups a day.

The Jura-Capresso espresso maker only needs you to feed it with water and espresso beans and empty out the grounds drawer every once in a while. It does every single other thing. At the touch of a button, it grinds the beans to the perfect texture, tamps it to perfection, and brews espresso exactly. Finding espresso beans is always interesting. Right now, my favorite are from a small roaster called Ancora in Wisconsin. This espresso maker prefers beans that are not too dark and oily and never likes flavored beans. French Roasts are good, as are Columbian, for a rich flavor. Lavazza beans are good for everyday use. My only complaint? The espresso is just a little too perfect.

It is not the same as sitting in a cafe on a sidewalk in Paris sipping espresso and smoking gauloises. But very few things are.

My wife and I purchased this all-in-one coffee maker and cannot believe the quality. We're just mad at ourselves for not purchasing one before. How many hundreds of dollars wasted at chain coffee houses and now we have coffee drinks that are BETTER at a fraction of the cost. Highly recommend you get one for yourself, you won't be sorry :)

This is a great machine and easy to use. Everyone raves about the espressos, coffees, lattes and cappuccinos. Even makes great hot chocolate. No messy tamping or clean up. The machine lets you know when to fill beans, water or empty the grounds. There is a cleaning cycle after about 200 cups and this is a little time consuming but the prompts are simple to follow. The water tank is of adequate size but for large groups, I wish it was a little bigger. Overall, this machine is well worth the money. How much did I like this product? I bought a second one for our vacation home.
