Roadpro RPSC-784 12-Volt Quick Cup Coffee Maker with 16 oz. Metal Carafe

Roadpro RPSC-784 12-Volt Quick Cup Coffee Maker with 16 oz. Metal CarafeSave your money. It worked great the first time. Now the coffee is only luke warm . I only used it four times.I did not expect

much for the price .But I did expect more than what I got. Save your money....

I guess you can't have it all with a 12 volt appliance. Just wanted a better cup than what the truck stops offer, but the thing takes such a long time to brew the mug full and there's no lower heating element...okay if you want it black, but it's barely warm if I add creamer.

It does make steaming HOT coffee, however I when I compare it to my home coffee maker the only difference is the home coffee comes out burning hot to where I got to wait about 5 mins for it to cool down enough to drink it. So if I had to guess I would say this coffee maker makes it maybe 5 degrees cooler. But again it's hot enough and you won't be disappointed. As far as brew time in under 15 mins. I timed it and its more like 17 mins. The quality seems on par with your typical home coffee makers. I think it's a really nice bonus that it comes with a stainless steel 16 ounce mug, reusable filter and measuring spoon. It even has a lower heating element. Do not listen to the negative reviews, they most likely got a defective unit and did not want to exchange it. If you're on the fence about this, I say go ahead and buy it. Also save your receipt it does have a 1 year warranty.

I'm using this coffee maker now for 14 days and the coffee still tastes like plastic.

In addition it takes wayyy to long for filling a cup but at least I can make coffee in my car, so I'm rating it with 2 stars!

After reading a lot of reviews I was really skeptical of this item. I tried it out today and made 16 ounces of coffee in 15 minutes. Might not have been the hottest coffee I've ever drank but it will seem very good in a rest area in the middle of the night. It is 12 volt so it's not going to perform like the 110 volt Bunn you have at home. The mounting bracket is of questionable value because the mounting screws are on the back and then the pot is fastened to the bracket from the underside. I could not find a place to mount it so the screws could be inserted in the underside. One reviewer mentioned it didn't sit level. Simple solution. Remove the mounting bracket. There is a water level indicator that will let you know when the water reservoir is empty.

All in all, I'm pleased as punch.

Laroma 18/10 Stainless Steel 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Coffee Maker

Laroma 18/10 Stainless Steel 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Coffee MakerI've owned a few stovetop espresso makers over the years, and this is my favorite so far cool comfortable rubber handles, the stainless steel will not corrode over time like another one I bought (which was beautiful but made of brass and eventually rusted). Looks handsome, works properly, and is easy to clean. Also doesn't use an internal rubber seal like the others I've had, which is great because a rubber seal can become a mess and I had one melt on me. I guess this one is precision-made well enough that it doesn't require one, because it works perfectly with no mess or splattering.

I didn't have the explosion experience that other commenter mentioned if that happened, very likely you need to poke a pin through the steam escape valve in the bottom canister or run the device with just water to clean it out. If that bottom valve is blocked it'll make a mess of any stovetop maker. You may also just have a faulty item.

Full disclosure: I only paid $20 for this at Macy's (they have some great deals in the basement, especially over the holidays), but I would pay $50 for it. At that price I might start looking at espresso/cappuccino machines instead, but for a stovetop maker this one hits the bulls-eye.

Go for it!

I was actually testing out a new french press to day just to compare its flavor to this laroma percolator.

It was a little shocking that people have had this blow up, but I have never had any problems with it. I don't have problems with pressure cookers either. Follow the directions and you will be fine.

This might be "6 cups" of expresso but it makes between 10-12 OZ of regular coffee. With any perculator you need to have a coarse grind on the beans so that you dont have sediment in the coffee. If you read the instructions you are supposed to fill the water BELOW the pressure release valve (viewable on the picture-its on the side) or yeah you might have problems. sometimes I do and sometimes I dont because i'm trying to pull out every oz of coffee out of it. This also uses the amount of coffee very efficiently so this one hitter uses a little under 4 tablespoons of coffee grinds for a cup.

As to any coating or plastic film on it, I saw noneperhaps it was a demo model they then sold. I got this as a gift and have used it every day for the past 2 years.

Very basic coffee maker that quietly and competently brews a cup of dense flavorful coffee. The stainless sieves have pretty wide bore holes so there is a moderate amount of grounds shot into the coffee. Where they rate this as "6 cup" is beyond me as the total volume resulting from a full fill is about 2 oz. Still playing with the grind to figure out the best granularity for this thing. Operation is quiet although the base is so narrow that the unit is best placed toward one edge of a small electric range burner but brews nicely, quickly and silently at low to moderate burner setting. Easy to disassemble for cleaning.

I scored this beauty at Macy's for twenty-nine bucks on a pre-Christmas sale. I was really thrilled and willing to take all precautions to avoid explosions. BUT when I got it home, I found that the stainless innards of the pots are coated with "something" grayish, that stinks to high heaven! I'm taking it back, no way am I drinking some potentially toxic plastic? epoxy? teflon? with every cuppa. Epoxy is 50% Bisphenyl-A (BpA)after all, and if it is teflon then why does it stink? Who knows WHAT that coating is?!! Besides disgusting....

After combing reviews of these stovetop espresso pots for literally weeks, I found one mentioning that a Veg Vivano (sp?)beautiful espresso pot also has a coating. Too Bad, I love the way they look.

*Does anyone know of a stainless stovetop espresso maker that does NOT have a coating?? Please post here, I am tracking comments. Hoping to find something by Valentine's day.

Laroma gets less than ZERO STARS from me for wrecking good stainless steel with nasty undisclosed coating, wasting my time and busting my hopes.

I purchased this stovetop espresso maker because I was trying to get away from using the aluminum Bialetti pots that I have. I became worried about the aluminum leaching into my coffee after the pots became etched and pitted. Unfortunately, until I found the Laroma, there wasn't anything else around that was available in my area except for the aluminum Bialetti pot.

I do like the weight of the Laroma and the comfortable molded handle. It is really easy to clean and diswasher safe (the aluminum ones aren't). And you don't have to get out a potholder to save burning your fingers when you remove it from the heat. I don't think it makes as good of a drink as the Bialetti, but it was worth the sacrifice to have a stainless pot.

What I don't like about this pot... well, it originally was the price that bothered me. $60 whereas the Bialetti pots are only $25-29. Ikea has a stainless pot that is very similar to the Laroma. I didn't pick it up to compare when I was there last because I had already bought the Laroma. But I can tell you, it was stainless and considerably less expensive (at the time it was $19 vs the $60 I spent.) The lid on this particular pot I feel is a bit flimsy too, but that isn't a real big issue. However, my MAIN problem with this pot is the safety factor. When I bought it I noticed that the threads that connect the water chamber to the top pitcher aren't very substantial. The grooves on the threading aren't very deep and are gently rounded. This worried me because I wondered how the 2 pieces would stay connected under the high internal pressure. Because of that, I always made sure to have the threads aligned correctly and screwed on TIGHT before putting it over the heat. Sometimes you can tell by the uneven gap where the 2 pieces connect that it isn't on correctly. So you have to redo it, sometimes a few different times till you get it right, which I did't have to do with the Bialetti because it screwed on nicely. If it isn't seated correctly, when pressure builds up, you will have espresso dribbling out all over your stove. And there isn't anything you can do about it at that stage until it cools down and the pressure subsides. Not good if you want your drink "right now".

So...the reason I felt I needed to write a review was because yesterday my fears about the 2 pieces staying connected were realized. I was making a pot of espresso. I had my side to the stove because I was loading the dishwasher when I heard a REALLY loud "POW!!!" The pot has a steam valve/vent but it didn't let air out or I would have heard it and removed it from the heat temporarily. Instead when the pot exploded, I got hit in the back of the head by a flying part. I thought, "What in the heck was that???!!" When I turned around....oh Lord. There was coffee and grounds everywhere. It had shot out over 10 feet in every direction: On the floor, on (and IN...however that happened) the cabinets, on the walls, on the lights, on the ceiling. If there was anything in the kitchen, it now had coffee and grounds on it. The pitcher became imbedded in the ceiling and then with the weight, it dropped to the ground leaving an arc-shaped cut about 1/4-1/2" deep in the ceiling that will have to be repaired and repainted. It took a couple 1/4" gouges out of maple wall cabinet above the stove (don't know how I'm going to repair that.) The screw even shot out of the little handle on the lid. Is that crazy or what? I just say a big "thank you" to the heavens above that I wasn't peering into the pot at the time or I shudder to think what it would have done to my face. If the force gouged out a hardwood like maple, I have no doubt I'd be in the hospital right now with a broken nose, burns, compromised eyesight and maybe even needing facial reconstruction. It really was scary and could have been so much worse. I was lucky that it only hit me in the back of the head and that I was wearing a long-sleeved sweatshirt and jeans that protected my body from the hot liquid.

A friend of mine mentioned that he uses the AeroPress (I think that is what it is called.) He spent 7 yrs in the Pacific NW, where we LOVE our espresso and coffee. He said it makes the best coffee he's ever had. I know everyone's taste is different, but if he didn't cringe at drinking it, I think I'm going to give it a try next. Amazon carries it and it is less than half the cost of the Laroma. I just know that I definitely won't be buying another one of these. Especially with grandkids in the house.

Jura 13422 Impressa C9 One Touch Automatic Coffee-and-Espresso Center, Black

Jura 13422 Impressa C9 One Touch Automatic Coffee-and-Espresso Center, Blackwe've had an S9 Jura for over 7 years and made over 6,000 coffees with it. It was a trooper and fantastic but sadly died on us so we wanted a replacement. I checked the specs for the S9 and C9 and seemed they were pretty much the same so for the price difference it felt living with a black and slimmer model with slightly less horsepower was a sensible trade-off.

The good;

1. Quiet

2. Small

3. Makes a nice cup of coffee (if administered well)

4. Button layout and customization is way easier than the old S9

The Bad

1. Black is not as attractive as the silver and also shows marks easier

2. Water filters are different sizes to the S9 (had a stock so that's a little annoying)

3. All the essentials feel twice as small as the S9 and a pain.. the milk container cannot even support two Lattes, the water container is too small and the coffee store is also.

4. The One-Touch button makes for a warm and hot coffee so is also a pointless feature IMO.

5. Fixed steam spout so with large cups it will be a pain to remove them without spilling

When we made a coffee with the S9 and new with the C9 we put the coffee in first, fill the milk and 3/4 up we switch to steam and give it a blast for the heat. This on either machine makes a fabulous coffee but negates the value of the one-touch.

If I were doing this again, I'd go for either a cheaper model knowing the one-touch is pointless and if budget is the concern OR I'd sucked it in and gone for the S9 for the added capacity.. For me I wish I'd chosen the S9 as the capacity thing will probably grind on me more than anything else.. but the above will give you an idea of variances.

All this said, I LOVE Jura, for the years we've had them, they're reliable, provide great service and well worth the investment. I'll begrudgingly live with the C9 knowing I made the wrong choice,.. Hope this helps your decision process..

I purchased this recently after I returned my unreliable Saeco V'spresso model. This machine has been much more reliable and makes excellent quality espresso/cappuccino with the push of a button. My favorite feature is the frothing system that allows it possible to make a cappuccino without moving the cup. It is much quicker than the traditional steam wand for lazy people like myself. Jura-Capresso seems to have much better customer service and warranties than its competitors as an added bonus.

This is my second fully automatic espresso maker. The first one was a Jura Espresso E8. They seem to have a life span of about 5 years with very frequent use -probably 10-15 single cups a day.

The Jura-Capresso espresso maker only needs you to feed it with water and espresso beans and empty out the grounds drawer every once in a while. It does every single other thing. At the touch of a button, it grinds the beans to the perfect texture, tamps it to perfection, and brews espresso exactly. Finding espresso beans is always interesting. Right now, my favorite are from a small roaster called Ancora in Wisconsin. This espresso maker prefers beans that are not too dark and oily and never likes flavored beans. French Roasts are good, as are Columbian, for a rich flavor. Lavazza beans are good for everyday use. My only complaint? The espresso is just a little too perfect.

It is not the same as sitting in a cafe on a sidewalk in Paris sipping espresso and smoking gauloises. But very few things are.

My wife and I purchased this all-in-one coffee maker and cannot believe the quality. We're just mad at ourselves for not purchasing one before. How many hundreds of dollars wasted at chain coffee houses and now we have coffee drinks that are BETTER at a fraction of the cost. Highly recommend you get one for yourself, you won't be sorry :)

This is a great machine and easy to use. Everyone raves about the espressos, coffees, lattes and cappuccinos. Even makes great hot chocolate. No messy tamping or clean up. The machine lets you know when to fill beans, water or empty the grounds. There is a cleaning cycle after about 200 cups and this is a little time consuming but the prompts are simple to follow. The water tank is of adequate size but for large groups, I wish it was a little bigger. Overall, this machine is well worth the money. How much did I like this product? I bought a second one for our vacation home.

Baratza Preciso Coffee Grinder 685

Baratza Preciso Coffee Grinder 685The expert reviewers say this may be the best grinder for other than espresso anywhere near its price-point. I researched the heck out of grinders under $400 and chose this one. I am very pleased -it has lived up to the hype. I prepare coffee using a medium-coarse (not exactly road gravel but significantly finer than French press) grind and an Eva Solo CafeSolo brewer. This grinder was a significant step up from my KitchenAid Pro Line and helped me extract a much better result (more flavor and less bitterness) than my previous efforts. The grinder appears to have a very high build quality.

Caveat #1: I don't make espresso at home, so if you are considering this grinder for espresso, by all means look at other reviews. I can't help you except to repeat what the expert reviewers say (see caveat #2).

Caveat #2: If you haven't read the expert reviews from Coffee Geek, Home Barista, Coava, Prima, Intelligentsia, etc., you really should. You'll get a detailed perspective on what to expect from a decent grinder. And you'll be able to better judge the experience level and value systems of your fellow Amazon coffee drinking reviewers (from clueless to elitist).

Detailed review follows...

Consistency of grind: Excellent

My experience is limited to using just a few burr grinders of similar quality to the Kitchenaid. I can't tell you how this grinder compares to other more expensive grinders. The expert reviewers say it is better than grinders costing over $1,000. All I know is that the grounds it produces are more consistent than the Kitchenaid. Fewer large chunks, and overall more even sizing. As for minimizing fine sediment, here is where this grinder really shines. I was able to produce an amazing cup of coffee with less bitter fine powder than I ever have before. The brew also tasted more flavorful, both because the fines weren't there to mask some of the flavor and also because I could grind a bit finer than I had before (which allowed me to cut back on my brew time and maintain a higher temperature throughout the process). This is Baratza's major selling point for this grinder, because unlike any other model in their line, this grinder has burrs that are optimized for coarser grinds. The burrs feature special cutting edges and a refined angle of attack that not only causes beans to get sliced with less crushing, but causes the throughput to be noticeably faster even though no changes have been made to the motor speed.

Minimizing static: Good (but remember caveat #1--you'll get more static when grinding finer)

I used to prepare coffee using a grinder valued at half the price of this one. I bought the KitchenAid Pro Line burr grinder for its build quality and excellent control of static (all my friends have
