DeLonghi Die-Cast Pump Espresso with Cappuccino Featuer

DeLonghi Die-Cast Pump Espresso with Cappuccino FeatuerThe machine is not as big as I was worried so it would fit nicely on the counter. It is attractive, well packaged and seems solidly built.

I was really excited about getting it even though a bit worried from those who stated theirs quit working after such a short time. I also purchased a grinder.

Unfortunately when I set it up and stumbled through instructions that were not very friendly, the machine simply would not work. It wold sputter and make weird noises then flash lights meaning no water delivery.

The troubleshooting section of the instructions says to check filter, valve and water container. Checked all multiple times and it did seem to have trouble with flowing water out of the water container with the filter in, so I removed it after multiple attempts to re-activate it. Water would then come out the valve, but machine still operated with failures to deliver.

I tried steam, hot water, and all different types of coffee in one cup, two cups, etc.

As badly as I wanted to get it to work, I finally packed it back up as defective and my plans to make my own expresso are done with. Other machines are either to cheap and may suffer same problems, or too expensive for me to purchase. This machine alone is a healthy investment and I was surprised at it's failure to work right out of a new box. I read instruction five times to be sure it was not operator error, and if it is, then instructions are bad!

I would exchange, but with reviews read from others my issue is much like they experienced after a few weeks.

Was awesome for 1 months and then would only make lattes not cappuccinos as the frothing of the milk wouldn't work any more. That was already my second attempt with that machine, the first one being defective and leaking water. Surprising from a reputable coffee machine manufacturer. I haven't bothered with the customer service, I just took it back.

The EC 860 quit working after 2 weeks and then would only spit hot water. DeLonghi customer service was the worst I've ever encountered telling me only that I had to find a service place, I had to call to prearrange the places willingness to do the warrantee work on it and I had to pay the shipping... after 5 attempts to get any response at all. Perhaps my machine was a lemon, but there's no excuse for DeLonghi's lack of "customer care" (their words) & I won't waste my money on any of their products again. Thank GOODNESS for Amazon who will take it back and reimburse me!

I have used this unit for over a year without any problems. It works as advertised. I do agree with one of the other users that the instructions were somewhat cryptic. This is not an Apple product. The initial set up is not intuitive. Read the instructions more than once and go for it. The price is reasonable and the performance is as expected.

Mr. Coffee Electric Coffee Grinder with Chamber Maid Cleaning System

Mr. Coffee IDS77 Electric Coffee Grinder with Chamber Maid Cleaning System, BlackThis coffee grinder was an impulse purchase and I was fully prepared to return it because I didn't expect it to work as advertised. To my astonishment, the darned thing actually does a pretty good job. I have tried several coffee grinders over the years and have ended up giving all of them away to friends and family. I gave up on burr grinders because they are messy, hard to clean, produce a bitter powder, and are so noisy you almost need earplugs to use them. The blade grinders I have tried produced an inconsistent grind size and you have to experiment with the number of seconds it takes to get the grind right for the quantity of coffee you want to make. If you want to make more cups or less, you have to experiment all over again with the number of seconds you need to grind the beans. I ended up just having the coffee shop grind my Kenya AA beans for me and I buy smaller amounts so the coffee won't go stale before I can use it all.

This Mr.Coffee grinder is the only one I've ever tried that I think I can live with. First of all, this is a $19.95 grinder and not a $300 precision instrument designed to produce a perfect cup of expresso. Within those parameters, it does a really good job. The electronic grind and cup quantity settings take all of the guess work out of using a blade grinder. With this grinder, you use the guide on the side of the unit to measure your beans, choose a grind setting and the number of cups of coffee you want to make and a processor apparently calculates everything for you. You just hold the grind button down and the machine turns itself off after the correct number of seconds. No grind time experimentation is needed and the machine seems to get the grind just right all by itself. Cleanup is a snap, just remove the bowl from the base unit and put it on the top rack of your dishwasher. The ground coffee is actually easier to empty from the bowl than with most blade grinders. Rather than having to turn the entire unit upside down and shaking the grounds into your coffeemaker, you just remove the grinder bowl, turn it upside down in a small plastic bowl, and tap it against the counter to get the coffee out.

The reviewer who complained about the short cord length apparently did not realize there is 3 feet of hidden cord wrapped around the inside of the base of the unit. All you have to do is pull it out.

While durability must be proven over time, I'm most impressed with this $19.95 grinder. Even if it only lasts for 2 years, you could afford to buy 30 of them for what a small professional grade burr grinder would cost and it's actually easier to live with than the pro grade grinder would be.

This review refers to Mr. Coffee Coffee Grinder With Chamber Maid Cleaning System"

I received this coffee grinder this past Christmas, and have been using it everyday since. Sometimes, depending on how many people are drinking coffee, twice or more a day. I loved it so much from the start and wanted to review it right away, but managed to restrain myself, and after three months of everyday use, I think I can safely say, this grinder is great!

It's nice to have freshly ground coffee at a moment's notice. Even the smell is enticing. It allows you to measure just the amount of beans you need from 4 to 12 cups, and then you set the grinder to the amount and the grind fine, medium, or coarse depending on how strong you like it. This may take some experimenting to see get it exactly to your taste. For example I have found that 4 cups for me is actually closer to 2(or less), as I drink from a large mug and not a 6oz cup. There are recommendations in the instruction book and on the grinder as well for how many tablespoons of beans per cup. I find I need a little more then suggested. There are indicator lights to help you choose the setting you want. Although you have to hold a button down, during the grinding process, it will automatically turn off when it is done according to your setting. If you lift your finger, it will also turn off. Occasionally there are a couple of beans not grinded, so shake it around and press for another second or two. The actually grinding process takes maybe 15 seconds for a full 12 cups. another nice thing, is that you can have a few different flavors on hand, and freshly grind, whatever you are in the mood for..Forget Starbucks!

The grinder has some very nice features. Inside the bean chamber, which also has a fill line, there is a cleaning system that scrapes the coffee of the sides and the bottom. Sometimes, there is even enough scraped off to make an extra cup. The pieces fit together easily, and come apart easily for washing. At first, I thought the cord was very short, and for weeks had to keep the grinder very close to to the electric outlet, but then I discovered(DUH!), the cord lifts out of it's holder and around the bottom edge, giving it quite a bit of length. Then is easy to recoil to keep the grinder wherever you want. It's slim and nice looking and doesn't take up much space at all. My only little complaint, and reason for four stars instead of 5, is that it is very loud. The first few times, it startled me with the racket. I'm not sure if much can be done about that, but I try to remember to grind my beans the night before, as I am an early riser and don't want to wake the rest of the house, or for that matter, my neighbors! The lid on top stays tightly closed for freshness.

Read the instruction book for use and care. It has French as well as English directions, a one year limited warranty, troubleshooting advice, and phone numbers for questions.

All in all a great little item that works great for a fresh tasting and smelling cup of coffee anytime.

Enjoy....Laurie

When I look for a coffee grinder, I look for 4 things:

1) Noise: This grinder is fairly noisy, but then again, so are most grinders. On a scale of 1-10 as far as noisyness goes compared to other grinders, I'd give it a 7.

2) Consistency: I like to grind my coffee coarse for french press; this grinder isn't very good at making a consistent coarse grind. However, if you want a regular grind for drip coffee or a fine grind for expresso, it does a really good job at that.

3) Static: I hate it whenever you pull the top off of a grinder to get the coffee out and tiny grind go flying everywhere--I've never had a problem with this grinder. You can open the top and pour the grinds out (which is difficult to do if you're trying to get it into a small container because the spout itself is not much different from the lip of a cup) or you can scoop the grinds out, which I preferto do anyway to double measure stuff (old habit).

4) Cleaning: This grinder has a removable top that you can take apart, which makes cleaning very easy. It also says it has a "Chaimber Maid" system...all that is is three thin plastic "claws" that hug the inside of the grinding chamber which you rotate awkwardly so that they scrape the sides of the chamber. It's neat, but unnecessary.

Other features:

There is a "cord storage" system that is a bit of a hassle to use because it requires you to coil the cord into a groove under the grinder (when you get the grinder only a short bit of the cord is shown, and the rest is coiled. It doesn't look like you can uncoil the cord from down there, and unless you're crazy enough to pull the cord out of your brand new grinder you'll have no clue that the thing is actually 37 inches long)

It has an "auto off" feature...I've never used it because my grindes always reach the coarsness I like before the timer shuts off the grinder.

The measuring system that the grinder uses is marked on the sid of the grinder which is very helpful (you don't have to pull out the manual every time you want to know how many Tbsp of coffee you need to make # cups of coffee)

It's about 8 in. tall with the diameter at the top being 4 in. (it's wider at the top).

Overall:

I like the grinder. I'd rather have a pull-cord-storage and a quieter grinder, but for the price that I paid, I'm a happy customer.

My husband purchased this product for my birthday a couple of years ago. I always grind my own coffee for breakfast and sometimes grind it for lunch. After a year I noticed the plastic arms (or scrapers) were getting very thin and one of them had even broken. I emailed customer service about the problem and they sent me a new grinding bowl. I looked at the new bowl, saw the arms were thick and thought the company had realized there was a design flaw and changed it. I began using the new grinding bowl and now it is a year later. I just noticed that the plastic arms are getting thin again. This could only mean that this grinder slowly grinds the plastic arms. And that you are drinking very finely ground plastic every time you drink a cup of coffee made from the beans you have freshly ground. Is this healthy? I think not!

First off, I have to say that many of the people who have complaints about this grinder may not have actually taken the extra few seconds to read the manual and understand how the device works. The grinder does a great job and my coffee is always perfect.

to address some issues that others had:

1. The plastic cleaning blade inside the grinding bowl needs to be manually spun (with your finger) to loosen the packed coffee grounds. Usually a single revolution will accomplish this task, then you can put this coffee in the maker!

2. This grinder makes it easy to get the coffee into your coffee maker -someone was complaining that it was more difficult to clean or use because it comes apart -this makes it really easy! Detach the bowl from the motor assembly with a short, counter clockwise turn of the wrist, and do the same with the lid (extremely easy, I assure you) -then dump the coffee from the grinding bowl into your filter, use your finger to agitate the plastic cleaning blade for a second or two to get as much usable coffee out of the bowl as possible, then wash out the bowl with a little water, and dry it with a towel (it is important to dry it immediately to avoid any chance for oxidation) and you're done! I am not sure why a previous reviewer was using a spoon or scoop to get the coffee out of the bowl -that's why it detaches from the base! The bowl is marked on the side so you will know what amount of beans to use -after a few experiments, it is very easy to judge how high to fill it. I just can't understand how it could be more difficult to clean the bowl when it is separate from the base than to clean a grinder that does not detach from the electrical portion...

2.1. if you need to grind your coffee coarsely for a percolator, you should not be buying whole beans buy your coffee from in large cans from companies that have television commercials and easy-listening jingles, as the end result is going to end up tasting awful, no matter what, if you put it in a percolator.

3. The power cord other people have addressed this -the cord is tucked up inside the bottom of the grinder -simply pull it out, and it is plenty long.

4. Another reviewer said he preferred a different grinder that shuts off automatically -this grinder does that as well -put in the beans, choose your settings with the buttons on the side of the unit, and then hold down the grinding button -continue to hold the button down until the grinder automatically stops -it will stop when it has achieved the level of grinding that you selected with the buttons.

5. Lights wasting electricity the reviewer who wrote that the grinder's lights are just wasting electricity is just a sillypants and wants to nitpick. The reality is this: the 2 LEDs that would be lit up while this device is plugged in would draw an almost nominal level of current. At 3.3vac a 100 Watt light bulb uses 30.3 Amps (30,300mA). At 3.3vac each LED would use 20mA -so, both LEDs would use, at most, 40mA which is less than 1/750th the amount the 100W bulb would use. You would have to leave the grinder plugged in and turned on for over a full month for the LED lights inside to use the same amount of current (electricity) used by turning on that 100 watt bulb for a single hour.

I have been using this grinder every day for 3 years along with a swissgold coffee filter (if you are still using paper filters you are just wasting trees and missing out on better tasting coffee...) and I have not had a single problem with it -it grinds the beans consistently to the settings I punch in, and my yield is a delicious pot every morning.

If you couldn't tell, I am quite happy with this grinder. So buy one already!

Bialetti Moka Express 1-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker

Bialetti Moka Express 1-Cup Stovetop Espresso MakerI decided to go with this instead of a fancy pants espresso machine. I bought the 1-cup maker (makes 1 shot of espresso, not 1 cup of coffee fyi) and a frother, and I am so glad that I did!

When I first opened the espresso maker, I wasn't exactly sure how to use it. Not all of the directions are perfectly clearI didn't know how high to fill the water (it says to the "lines," but I didn't see any lines), how much espresso to put in, or how long to let it sit for. I skimmed through a bunch of reviews and slowly pieced together all the info I needed....which I will put in one convenient place for you!

When you first get it, clean it with water. Everything I readfrom the instructions to other reviewssay not to use soap. The instructions say to make your first batch and throw it away, which I did since I wasn't able to use soap to clean it.

If you get a larger maker, obviously you will need to adjust your measurements. For the 1-cup, put the water in the bottom piece up to the bottom of the valve (the thing on the wall of the base when you look in it). Put the metal filter in next and put 1 tbsp espresso in. Again, this makes one espresso shot. Screw the top on and put it on low-medium heat (I put it on 3 or 4 on my electric stove and that worked just fine). My burners are pretty big so I set it off to the side of the coils where it was directly on a few of them; I set the handle so it wasn't over the coils because I saw a lot of reviews about the handle melting.

When I made my first batch, I wasn't sure how long to wait; needless to say, I didn't wait long enough. With the 1-cup, it took about 5 minutes to see the espresso start to brew. As it brews, you can definitely open the top to take a peek. You have to guestimate when all the water has gone through (trial and error from using it a few times), and when it's all done, pour out your espresso into whatever you are drinking it from.

For an easy mochaI heated 1/2 cup or so of milk in the microwave. I used Hershey's syrup (about 1 tbsp) and added it to the milk. I used my $7 milk frother (IKEA Produkt Milk Frother...if you live by IKEA, buy it in person for $2!) to mix the milk/syrup. I poured the espresso in a mug and added the chocolate milk to it. It was much more delicious than I expected for using plain ol' Hershey's syrup!!!

In conclusion, it's an awesome espresso maker. It's better than a machine because there are less parts to break, it's easier to clean, and it's definitely authentic!!

Enjoy :D

A previous reviewer complained that the 6 cup version only makes 1 1/4 cups. This is an espresso maker, as such, the cups are measured in "espresso cups", which happen to be 1oz or 30ml. So the 6 cup make 6oz, which is plenty of espresso to have anyone climbing the walls. I love mine, I have the 3 and 6 version (work and home).

This is your basic Italian single shot espresso maker for the stovetop. I used practically the same model for almost a year while in Florence. I'm tracking down some killer Illy dark coffee to run through this puppy and am salivating until I can find a can.

It works very well. This unit produces a very small amount of very strong coffee. About the same as a single espresso from that corporate giant in Seattle.

***** The keys to success are: 1. fill water no higher than the nut (pressure relief valve) on the side of the bottom section, and 2) use only low to medium (at most) heat to keep it from boiling over.

Yum!

I've had the 3-cup model for 5 years, using it on average 3-4 times per week. It makes absolutely fantastic espresso and I've become so spoiled that I don't care much for espresso in coffee shops any more. It's quick, simple and wonderful! One caution that several reviewers mentioned -make SURE it is COMPLETELY dry before storing away. My wife put it away several times without it being completely dry and now I have that "corrosion" that a few reviewers have mentioned. As long as it's dry COMPLETELY dry this won't happen. BUT, even though I'll now be ordering a new (and bigger) one, 5 years from an inexpensive little pot that has blown me away with its coffee quality isn't bad at all. For now, I've found that if I scrub out the interior with a steel wool SOS pad before using it, I'm getting by until I get a new one. I LOVE this pot! My advice -buy one now! Oh, for a really special treat, put a small piece of lemon rind in the cup before pouring in the coffee. HEAVEN!

Want Bialetti Moka Express 1-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker Discount?

Since I'm Italian I can claim a good experience in moka coffee.

There's nothing wrong with this one, you cannot expect the same quality as espresso. Using good coffee beans, well ground and packing it right you'll have a good coffee. Just a matter of pratice. Remember: you don't need soap to wash it, keep the fire far from the handle and change the O-ring periodically.

Tassimo T47 Single Serve Brewing System

Tassimo T47 Single Serve Brewing SystemThis is my 3rd Tassimo brewer; 1st (T20) still going strong at work; the 2nd one was a Tassimo Single-Serve Coffee Brewer TAS1000UC and this is the 3rd one replacing the now dead T1000UC.

The main coffee that keeps me a Tassimo customer is the quality of the brew; there is just nothing else better other than going to your local barista.

As far as the brewer, I am disappointed that this brewer seems like a step back from the T1000UC. It does looks better, but that is the only thing better than the T1000. It has a bigger foot print (wider). The water tank has to be taken off in order to refill with water, something were I could refill the T1000 from the top without having to remove the water tank; is this a big deal? Well, it is just inconvenient as if you lack the space you have to provide about 6 to 10 inches in depth in order to remove the water tank.

The cup stand looks better, but it is just awkward, it does not snap into place easy, I always have to fiddle around to make sure that the guides line up, and it is easy to inserted wrongly leaving the cup not flat. 12 days into the purchase, the brewer just stopped reading the T-Discs, including the service disk; spent 3 hours cleaning 100% and ensuring that the piercing unit and the drink dispenser were inserted correctly; the snapping mechanism of the clamp seems to have some kind of flaw; if it does not has the right amount of pressure it wont read the T-Disc; and guess what? you can't even dispense hot water from it which it is really a design failure. Come on Bosch/Tassimo; I know your bar code system is awesome; but you gotta give your customers some latitude of at least dispensing hot water. So, had to return and exchange the brewer and I am now on day 1 without any malfunction hoping that I don't have to deal with the same again.

Update: Day 4 into the replacement. So far no issues with reading the T-Discs and brewing excellent coffee. One positive note that I didn't get before; I can easily use basically any size cup size without issues; from a small 3oz espresso, to the tall 12oz Bodum glasses. Bumping review to 3 stars, because without the brewer I could not have the awesome brews of the espressos and dark house coffee that I love. See pictures.

Wellll, I can't quibble with the quality of the coffee. It tastes great and I love the fact that the brewer dispenses a beverage instantly. My main point of contention is that its coffee is not available where I grocery shop. I bought the brewer at Bed, Bath and Beyond, and was assured by the sales clerk that I would be able to find the coffee "T discs" anywhere. I shop at Publix, which carries Keurig coffee packs but not Tassimo. Tassimo's coffee discs are very specific; they have a bar code that regulates temperature, the amount of water used, etc. So nothing else works in brewer. You can't use generic. You can't use a little basket thingy that holds loose coffee or tea. I took the Tassimo back and exchanged it for a Keurig. The Keurig doesn't heat water as fast but it's a suitable replacement. Too bad about Tassimo--the concept is great, but its coffee availability isn't.

DeLonghi Nescafe Dolce Gusto Piccolo Plus Coffeemaker, Produces Gourmet Coffees, Lattes, Cappuccino

DeLonghi Nescafe Dolce Gusto Piccolo Plus Coffeemaker, Produces Gourmet Coffees, Lattes, Cappuccinos, Iced Drinks and moreI love this little machine. It is very fast and brews rich, dark coffee, espresso, and fancier coffee house drinks. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for something that is quick, convenient, and goes beyond just black coffee options. I was looking for a single brew system, because even a small pot of coffee can go wasted in our household. This system lets you brew one (small) cup at a time so you have fresh coffee when you want it. As a super-bonus, this one cup system allows you to make lattes, caramel macchiato, mochas, hot chocolate, and tea as well. This has virtually eliminated my daily Starbucks run. Here are a few things I think you should know before you make a decision to buy...

1. Brewing an 8oz cup of coffee takes only one capsule, and will cost you around 0.50 to 0.60 per cup.

2. Brewing a 7 to 8 oz coffee house drink takes two capsules, so it costs double. This is also true for the hot chocolate and chai tea latte.

3. The espresso from this machine forms a really nice crema and is truly a treat.

4. Although the boxes of capsules tell you how many ounces of each capsule to brew for a perfect cup, this machine requires you to manually estimate the ounces. To get around that issue, you can do a couple of things. The coffee and latte cups that are sold by Nestle and come with some machines are proportioned to help you estimate accurately, with the bottom of the handle indicating one measurement, the top indicating another, etc. Another option is to measure out the cups you have and find out which of your cups are 8oz and where the 4, 5, 6 and 7 ounce points are. Alternatively, you could opt for one of the more expensive dolce gusto machines which have indicators built into them and avoid estimating all together.

5. There is one variety of the capsules that I won't buy again the skinny cappuccino. At 50 calories and 0 grams of fat, versus 85 calories and 4g of fat in the normal cappuccino, I just don't think there is enough of a difference in nutritional value to justify the watering down of an otherwise satisfying drink.

6. I have a hard time finding the capsules in stores. However, it is easy to order them from Amazon or www. dolce-gusto.us.

7. Make sure to register for the rewards program at the the dolce-gusto site, as you can get a free box of capsules for every 10 boxes you buy (regardless of where you bought them).

I hope this is useful.

This little machine spits out a nice cup of coffee. A nice small cup of coffee. If you look at the instructions for each variety it reads that they all are under 8 ounces. Some are closer to the 6 ounce mark. If you go over that then you're just brewing water because the capsules run out of coffee and milk after a certain amount of water flows through them. You'll actually see it flow clear. The machine itself brews quickly and hot. It does make fancy coffee drinks (mocha, latte, cappuccino, chai, etc), but these drinks can be very expensive. A single box of capsules for a latte drink is $9.99 and only brews 8 cups (8 milk capsules, 8 coffee capsules) and these are small cups. If you want a larger mug you're going to have to use two of each. It would be fun for an office or for a dorm if you have the money to keep buying the capsules. I'd think of it as more of a once in a while thing and not something to use daily.

I bought the Piccolo in black, which came with a box of assorted pods to get me started. It makes a very good espresso for a little, automatic maker. I still go to Starbucks when I want the best, but this funny looking contraption is my everyday espresso machine, and it keeps me satisfied.

I have used every pod they offer and made every drink possible, and they are all very good. I like that I can control the coffee to milk ratio, which lets me customize my drinks according to my mood. I use only water from my reverse osmosis system, which enables me to not have to use the descaling solution, and I am sure the coffee tastes better that way. The quality of the coffee and milk in the pods is very good.

One of my favorite drinks is the dark roast espresso. I make a dopio with a single pod, and the crema is wonderful. I can't say it is as good as Starbucks, but I also can't say that many other coffee house coffees are as good as the Dolce Gusto coffee. We have a nice coffee house in town, and they charge $185 for a dopio espresso, and it is not as good as the espresso from my little machine.

This is an espresso machine, not a regular coffee pod machine. I have tried other regular coffee pod machines, and some are good, but I like espresso drinks the best because I think espresso is the best way to do coffee.

The espressos I had when I was in Italy were to die for, and my machine cannot be compared with those; but, I can say with confidence that my machine does espresso better than most that I have had in America, except Starbucks, but they charge $195 for a dopio. The cost to make a dopio in my machine is about 60 cents.

I bought Nescafe Dolce Gusto Piccolo (black) by DeLonghi when there was some sort of a promotion sale going on, I figured since it was so cheap, I thought I'd give it a try.

Making all different various of coffee (fx.espresso, latte, cappuccino, and more) has never been this much quick & easy. Dolce gusto also has a lot of different flavors to choose from, even hot chocolates for you and your kids like chococcino & nesquik.

Only issue I have with this machine is that it doesn't automatically control the amount of water in the coffee, so you have to stand there and take a guess and stop the machine, and if you don't stop the machine at right amount, you'll end up drinking watered down coffee. If you don't want all that hassle, I think it's better to get DeLonghi Nescafe Dolce Gusto Genio Coffeemaker, since you can set the water level and machine will stop automatically, and there's not much of price differences.

Great little compact coffee maker. Makes expresso, cafe lattes, cappucinos, and regular coffees. Highly recommend this little coffee maker. Have tried various different coffees and impressed with all. Only draw back is that you can't find the pods easily -you either have to order on line or shop at high end stores.
