I've been using this stovetop espresso maker for a few years, unfortunately...The water chamber appear to be coated with some teflon-like substance when I first purchased it, and soon became discolored in a multi-colored metallic way....I called espressozone.com who i had bought it from, and they said it was normal...packaging states that it's all stainless steel, but it isn't, for sure....I use filtered PUR water only, so it's not a water issue....I really dismissed it could be the cause of some of my health issues because it seemed so minor...but then I came across other review today that corroborate what I've thought all along...it's not normal and could cause health problems. I'm officially recycling it and getting a different one. I do use it 1-2 times a day, and yes it has some corrosion in the water chamber that is unexplainable, given that stainless steel is not supposed to be able to rust or corrode...I'd avoid this entire company's product line if I were you.

I was extremely disappointed in this pot. The plating on the horizontal bar which attaches the handle to the pot started to peel at the edges after a couple of uses. The handle is not parallel to the pot but on an angle. The edges inside the lid and the base are sharp. After cutting myself while washing the base, I learned to be more careful so now go through lots of sponges instead. I bought this as a gift and returned the first one. The seller authorization came along with a note saying they would want the other one back. Since it was a defective product I requested they pay for postage. Never received the return instructions. The second one had the same problem. Since I still had the first including the box, I noticed both had a slash on the boxes as if nicked with a box cutter. Since some suppliers mark boxes in this way when they are seconds, I wonder if these are seconds.

I believe that Krupps Coffeemakers make the best coffee. Mine was over ten year old and needed replacement. I didn't like the all metal look of the Coffeemakers on Amazon and was glad when they came out with this black one. It truly makes good coffee and it looks nice too. My main complaint is the water fill tank in the back is small and hard to hit the right spot without spilling (see photo). This is why I didn't give it five stars. The level indicator is also rather hard to see, and I have to guess as to how full it is. It seems like all Krupps Carafe's dribble a bit, but I am used to that by now. I still really like it, even with it's faults.

UPDATE: After a little more than a year, it died. I purchased Krupps all my life, but no more.

My previous Krups coffee maker was made in Germany and worked perfectly for almost 20 years. It finally died over the Xmas holidays after heavy usea solenoid apparently fried (I took it apart to see if I could fix it as I hated to part with an original German-quality appliance).

My new Krups works fine (made in China), but after a few uses I wanted to wash the carafe in the dishwasher. Lo and behold the carafe top could not be removed, and the carafe therefore cannot be washed in the dishwasher.

I think most people like to wash their carafes in the dishwasher every week or so to keep them shiny and clean. Not being able to do this is a major negative for this coffeemaker.

Otherwise I have not had any problems with the coffee it makes. But I would not recommend it to anybody who wants to wash the glass carafe in the dishwasherwhich I think most people like to do.

As you would expect from a Krups coffee maker, yes it does make excellent coffee, but there are a couple of very annoying design flaws. The worst in my opinion is the tiny space you have to hit when you're pouring the water in it. The lid is in the way which compounds the problem. The second concerns the pot itself in 2 areas the lid is not removable for cleaning and when you are pouring coffee from the pot, the steam comes through a hole between the handle and the lid and is uncomfortably hot on your thumb. The pot also has a tendency to dribble coffee while pouring. Another fault, although a minor one is that the stainless lid you have to close over the basket is very prone to fingerprint smudges. In all I think it is a pretty disappointing coffee maker considering the quality Krups is known for. *** Updated 11/8/2010 *** ...and after only 9 months the piece of junk DIED in mid-pot of making coffee. The heater element croaked I would assume. Krups has a history of making the best coffee pots available in my opinion, but this one really SUCKS for lack of a better description.

I believe that people are not comparing the correct product to product. The black Krups is just a coffee maker. Model # km465 is a Krups Dahlstrom. Model # km5065, sold only at Wm of Sonoma and made especially for them, is a Krups Dahlstrom with more bells and whistles. It heats the water 21% faster. Important to research when making such an investment.

We got this unit to replace a unit we have had for several years that just got old. We have been using this coffee maker for 3 days now without issue. There are some setup concerns though. There is a water filter screen attached to the removable coffee v-cone that covers the water-filling area. Using the screen-filter greatly slows water flow as you fill the tank. Since we have a whole house filtering system I don't see a need for this. It removes easily. The instructions for your initial use are very poorly written and totally useless. Follow the cleaning process steps for your initial water cleaning steps. This unit doesn't drip. The black carafe edge does limit totally emptying the carafe but the amount of water or coffee remaining is very small; so, no big deal. At this point I'm very satisfied and fully recommend this coffee maker.

I bought this because I hated digging in those bags of coffee especially when it got down to the bottom.

While this looks very nice I have it next to my coffee pot on the counter, it leaks coffee out the bottom from the time you pick it up (just a tiny bit then) to the time you put it back (note: putting back in tray very gently) it leaks at least a half to three quarters teaspoon out. The tray is helpful at catching some but it is very small and a custom fit to the dispenser, it does not help. I still end up with coffee on the counter. I thought this was going to be a wonderful (especially since it is non-electric)appliance. It turns out I waste way to much coffee. I have just written an email to the company to see if there is a fix for this extra leakage. So I'm not sure if this is common to all. Just know mine is worthless.

I really like this product. It requires refilling every 5 or 6 pots of coffee, but is really handy for making a quick pot.

Good dispensing mechanism & looks GREAT on the counter! I would probably give it a 5-star if I happened to be using it with course/DRIP grind coffee. For FINER grinds, however (such as gold-filter or espresso), the dispensing dose tends to get a little too compacted to fall out very easily. You have to tap/pound it over the filter basket a little for the coffee to fall out. Gets a little messy over the small metal espresso filter cup I use. I got better at it w/ practice but will probably go back to 'scooping' my coffee since a somewhat fine espresso grind is the only grind size I use.

*** Update ***

I now use this coffee dispenser for my RAW SUGAR. (Turbinado, not brown) Works quite well with the course granules & dispenses a perfect 2 teaspoons for for my daily travel mug.

P.S. The other 1-star review seems to have gotten attached to the wrong item. This item is a coffee dispenser, not a coffee meter (not sure what that is) and is shipped/sold by Amazon.com, not ToolsOnline.

It's working great after an adjustment to the bottom screw.

Turn product over, there is a screw/whatever it's called that can be tightened.

Make sure the opening is alligned before you tighten.

Remember that the coffee drops from the opening closest to the handle.

Angle it a little before you squeeze the handle.

You should now have dispenced without a mess.

Working great for me.

My only wish is that it was shorter and held more coffee.
