Black & Decker DCM100B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe

Black & Decker DCM100B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass CarafeAbout 10 months after I bought one of these, it started randomly shutting off during the brew cycle. The plastic rim around the hot plate cracked one day while brewing. Applica (the manufacturer) replaced it for a $7.50 fee under the warranty. Now, less than a month after getting the replacement, this one is doing the same thing, stopping in the middle of a brew cycle, and this morning the rim around the hot plate cracked while brewing a pot. Had a Braun for years before this piece of junk and it never gave me any trouble.

Special-fit carafe MUST sit in place to disengage the "brew stop" feature,

or you will be cleaning up your coffee as it overflows on the counter.

PAPER THIN carafe (I have no idea where it is from, but lemme guess, China?)

A small tap on the water faucet: time for a new carafe.

DO NOT buy a "compatible" carafe, even if you can find one. If it doesn't

fit EXACTLY as the original, you again get to clean up the coffee from the

counter.

I would recommend this to Bernie Madoff and would require he hold it in

his lap, making coffee with an ill-fitting replacement cafe, while

in his underwear. Other than that, stay away.

Great gag gift for people who think dribble cups are funny.

The coffee pot sits on the plate incorrectly thus causing drippage all over the counter! I do not reccommend this to a friend.

I've owned this coffee maker for a year and it has made a reliable cup of Joe every time. I have not experienced the brewing issues posted by other reviewers, just good coffee. My only complaint is that the lip of the carafe is poorly design. Whenever I pour coffee to my cup, a few drops drip to the floor...no mater the tilt or speed of the pour. This design flaw could have easily been caught by the design team and for that, it losing a full star.

I had been looking for a new coffeemaker for awhile and couldn't find one that I liked both the looks and features in stores. I received a coupon for Amazon.com & decided to see what coffeemakers they had. I saw this one & with the discount coupon only paid $9.99, so I thought I'd try it. I really like the look & design of the coffeemaker & it is very easy to use.

Nescafe Dolce Gusto Melody II Single Serve Coffee Machine

Nescafe Dolce Gusto Melody II Single Serve Coffee Machine, BlackMy husband and I received this as a gift. We are coffee drinkers, so this definately made our day. This coffee maker is very easy to use and easy to clean. The coffee is always piping hot. You can make a cup in about 30 seconds! I like being able to make different varieties of drinks that I couldn't do before. Instructions for making the different drinks are super easy. The coffee, hot chocolate, cappuccinos, and machiatos are all good. The cold drinks (ice cappuccino & peach tea) are wonderful. I would definatley recommend this to anyone. Before, we were ordering our pods online, but I've recently discovered that Walmart sells quite a few of the varieties.

I got this as a Christmas gift for my wife. So far we've only tried the latte macciato and the hot chocolate (cocochino) flavors but she likes both of them. The machine is easy enough to use, although an auto shut off option may be worth the extra money (the creativa model has this option). As it is you have to decide when to turn off the machine so you have that control over the strength of the coffee but its hard to get the reccommended amount. The only complaint I have is that amazon says:

"Everything you need to make a hot or cold drink is contained in our easy to use capsules, your new system come with a variety box of 16 capsules, a cappuccino cup and saucer, and a latte macchiato glass mug"

Which is partly true because I got the variety box but I didn't get the cappuccino cup, saucer or latte macciato glass mug. I didn't lower my rating since this has no effect on the coffee maker but I wouldn't have paid what I did if I knew I wouldn't be getting these items. I think its an error on Amazon's part and not a missing item because the box did not mention the cup, saucer or mug being included. I will update my review after I hear back from Amazon on the issue.

UPDATE: Amazon took care of the problem for me, hopefully they start shipping with the mugs for everyone else or they take it off the description.

I have tried and owned the Keurig, Tassimo, Senseo and Dolce Gusto. I've kept the Dolce Gusto because it produces the best tasting drinks! The ease of use and taste of different drinks is fantastic! This is definitely, without a doubt, the best single serve coffee maker on the market!

After reading the rave reviews for this product, I decided to give it a try to save money and time in my morning routine of getting coffee drinks at starbucks, dunkin donuts, etc. A quick breakdown of the device from over a dozen uses of the machine:

Pros

-makes drinks fast

-easy to assemble

-aesthetically pleasing (good-looking)

-compact, occupies minimal space

Cons

-drinks are watery

-drinks require multiple capsules

-drinks don't have full flavor

While ergonomically, this device is quite a success, it lacks the full flavor of a coffee from a true cafe or even a Starbucks. I'm hearing other reviews talk about European coffee. I just got back from Europe two days ago and I'm drinking the nescafe vanilla macchiato it's like night and day. This Nescafe drink took 4 capsules to get enough flavor (the instructions recommend 2) and it still tastes like flavored water. I've tried to crank up the strength of the various recipes by adding espresso, but espresso looks and tastes like regular coffee and isn't very strong.

After having tried several different Keurig models at retailers, workplaces, and friends' apartments, I do not feel that I'm being harsh by saying this device doesn't live up to industry standards. I believe the Nescafe increased bar pressure system does not derive any more from the ingredients/beans. While this is an excellent business model for selling more capsules vs k-cups, hypothetically the increased varieties of capsules should add the nuance of flavors with additional recipes, but I've found the base espresso as well as the more advanced recipes that incorporate milk all have an insipid, uninspiring taste.

These drinks are simply not pleasurable to drink.

I have a Keurig B60 and the most of the coffee is just so so.This coffee is phenominal. It has a very bold dark, rich and unique flavor..I am reviewing the coffee because unlike other single brew coffee makers, you have no choice other than to use dolce gusto (nestles)coffee in this machine. That might seem as a serious limitation, but believe me it is worth it. I do hope nestles releases some more flavors, especially decaf as there is only one so far........Arabica coffee does have less caffiene then other beans, so that may be their rational for only one flavor..

What I like about the machine is the manual lever. You control the amount of coffee in each cup. Hold the lever longer for weaker brews, shorter for stronger brews...There are two capsules for Latte's, cappucino's, and chocolate, (1 milk and 1 coffee), and 1 capsule for regular coffee...I haven't tried the tea yet...

The capsule holder is very sturdy and since no coffee touches it, rarely requires rinsing.

If you like European strength coffee you will love this coffee...they do have espresso too..

Youtube has several video's on how to make a good cup of coffee..check them out.

UPDATE: 01/03/2012 In response to concerns of brew temp I measured both my dolce gusto and keurig today. The DG was 184F and the keurig 180F.....Found that interesting since my keurig is set for 192F...

DeLonghi Kmix Drip Coffee Maker

DeLonghi Kmix 5-Cup Drip Coffee Maker, OrangeSeems all these $1000 espresso machines are fantastically tiny and well designed (and what exactly do they do for $1000? Heat water to 1000 kelvin? Blast steam through coffee grounds at warp 9.9? Must be an engineering marvel for all that money). Then I try to buy a normal coffee maker and it seems my only option was going to Target and spending $29.95 on a surprisingly gigantic monstrosity. Unfortunately my counter space is measured on the nanoscale, no way was I going to give up half of it to a coffee maker. That's why I was so excited to find this one at Bloomingdales and then find it way cheaper here on Amazon. It looks great, and all the colors are fantastic in person (I saw all the choices at Bloomies).

Pros:

-Incredibly sturdy and well made. A pleasure to use every day. I anticipate having this a long time.

-Smallest footprint I've found.

-The 5-cup size is perfect for two adults to have a big, satisfying cup of coffee.

-You can use the included gold filter or use paper filters.

-Makes excellent coffee that is hot but still drinkable right away.

Con:

-See the silver top part? The whole silver top opens the long way (hinge at the back) to add water and the coffee. This means when you open it, it will not fit under your cabinets, so you have to pull it out to fill it, or put it somewhere that isn't under a cabinet. So while it is only 12" closed, it is 20.5" open, and you have to open it pretty much all the way to add water and coffee.

-It makes coffee pretty fast so the cup warmer thing doesn't really have time to warm your cups. This isn't really a con for me as it's not that big a deal, but if you care, then there you go.

I won't expound on the many qualities of this coffee maker (of which there are many), as it has been well established here by the other reviews. I'm as happy as most, but obviously not all. I have not experience any of the problems these 1 and 2 star reviews are giving. This is a simple, good looking, sturdy coffee maker. If you're in a hurry for a cup of coffee, go to Starbucks.

Just a tip for those who buy this machine. After several pots of coffee have been made, you will turn it on one day and see an amber light blinking above the On/Off switch. There are no real instructions that come with this coffeemaker, so you're on your own to figure out what that blinking light means. What it means is this: It's time to descale the machine.

You can do this buy buying one of the many coffeemaker cleaners on the market (follow the instructions that come with that) or by running 4-6 cups of vinegar through the machine, followed by a few full pots of water to rinse it out.

Once this is done, simply press the small amber light (which is actually a small button) until the light stops blinking. Your DeLonghi K-Mix is now descaled and ready to produce many more pots of excellent coffee.

I like the looks and the coffee from this maker but, per the description, it should have a 2-hour shut off. It acually says "you never have to worry about turning off your coffee maker, with 2-hour automatic shut off it does it for you". When mine was not shutting itself off I called the company and they told me this model does not have an auto shut off. So, for over $100 you can't even get a feature that comes on $15 machines but should be considered a basic on ALL coffee pots just for safety reasons. Shame on Amazon for listing a description that is not at all accurate and shame on the company for making a substandard machine and charging a ridiculous price.

This is a great looking coffee maker. It heats the water to proper temp and has a shower-head delivery system. The coffee is very good, about on par with the Moccamaster, not as good as an Aeropress. Its great if you just need to make 2 mugs without any fuss, or have a small kitchen. Its really cute.I have the aqua blue.

Want DeLonghi Kmix Drip Coffee Maker Discount?

Have owned mine for almost a year now and my list of pros grows shorter by the month.

PROS:

It does shut off after 2 hours

Looks good but silver hard to keep clean. Dripped decalcifying solution on it and now have permanent mark.

Makes decent coffee

CONS:

Need's lots of space above it: I think coffee maker manufacturers assume everyone can place their coffee makers on a counter with no cupboards above it. I think this is a luxury. Most of us find room under a cupboard. And while this little beauty feels small in a kitchen, that changes when you go to make a pot. You will need to pull it out from under the cupboard (which is pretty easy. It is light and sits on a base that moves very easily). The water goes in the back and that lid is pretty short but you'll need to be able to reach it. The coffee goes in the front and that lid is most of the top which needs to be lifted to a full 90 degrees. Lift it less than straight up and it falls back down. I measured the 10cup total hight with front lid open and it is 22in.

Drips about 2 tablespoons of water out the handle so I MUST put a folded paper towel under it every time I brew. Ruins the pretty look on my counter.

Blinking light wont go off though I have decalcified it monthly. Double one time and unplugged for 24 hours a few times to reset it. Worse yet there is no guidance in the manual about this light. I searched the Internet for ideas.

Cannot pour all coffee or water out of carafe. It gets stuck under the lip of the carafe.

I guess that is all. But between the pool of water coming from the handle that runs all over my counter if I forget the paper towel, the blinking light, and the decalcification stains, I no longer enjoy making or now really even drinking my coffee. My husband who is a CFO of an engineering firm simply can't believe coffee makers (by any manufacturer) can't be engineered better. He says if his company put out this bad design and poor execution they would all be fired. C'mon people, we can do better than this!

Defeated and disappointed. (If you know of a good coffee maker, please let me know)

European Gift Aluminium Stove Top Espresso Maker, 12 Cup

European Gift Aluminium Stove Top Espresso Maker, 12 Cup1. espress roast/espresso grind from www.capricorncoffees.com

2. stovetop esresso maker

3. aluminum sauce pan

4. milk

5. whisk

6. comfortable chair

7. good book from www.amazon.com

Contrary to the elitest pump-heads, you do not need a $500 pump driven espresso maker to make terrific espresoo -heck -they've been making espresso for hundreds of years -long before delonge came out with their Espresso-master 2000.

I've had this stove top model for 3 years now ... the espresso it brews is hot, smooth, and intense, but never bitter.

Similarly, you can froth milk over a low heat with a whisk and a saucepan it comes out frothier richer than a steam valve could ever produce.

The total set up is about 30 bucks. Take the $400 in savings, buy a bunch of books to enjoy with your espresso drinks.

Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Chrome/Black

Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Chrome/BlackI purchased this coffee maker around Christmas and was a little concerned over the prior reviews that stated it uses too much coffee. The chemist in me had to do the experiment.

A standard issue coffee from Starbucks was ground to a standard medium grind for coffee makers of this type. The coffee was measured on a 1 gram precision scale according to the specification on the Starbucks coffee bag (2Tbs per 6oz cup) to make 6 cups of coffee. The coffee grinds weighed to be 54 grams. The same coffee beans from the same bag were ground in the coffee maker set to 6 cups and strong. The coffee grinds were then measured on the same scale and wouldn't you know...it was exactly 54 grams.

For my coffee beans this machine on the 6 cup setting produced the following:

Strong = 9 grams (2Tbs) of coffee per cup of water

Medium = 8 grams (about 1 3/4Tbs) of coffee per cup of water

Mild = 7 grams (about 1 1/2Tbs) of coffee per cup of water

I can't imagine that one couldn't find a setting to their liking when you consider you have increments of 2 cups with 3 settings (strong, medium and mild) each.

After considerable research for the absolute best coffee maker in the world, I decided to purchase the Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB-700BC. It has a burr grinder. This one has the 12-cup glass carafe and it has a warming plate. Reviews on the stainless steel carafe have stated there is no warming plate. It seems the glass one does and the thermal one does not. It works perfectly and is very easy to program and use. It comes with a DVD which simplifies the process even more.

It can also brew ground coffee. Just turn off the grinder before pressing the on/off button and it's ready to go.

As for noise, I don't consider it too noisy. After all, it IS a coffee grinder and I expect to hear it when it grinds the coffee.

The hopper holds a half-pound of beans which is enough to make coffee several times (if you're using the mild setting).

The retail price is $199, but many places have it routinely for $169. I purchased mine at Kohls for $159 and they had a "scratch off" sale going on and I got an additional 15% off at the checkout.

I highly recommend this coffeemaker.

I have owned a couple of grind and brews in the past with mixed results. Our first was a Mr Coffee back in the 1990's. It made great coffee, but was messy, and broke frequently. We also had the first Jura Capresso model about 6 years ago. I liked it, but my wife felt that no matter what the settings were, the coffee was bitter. Recenly we had been using a Krups stand alone machine, that makes good coffee, and a stand alone Krups burr grinder. Since our Krups burr grinder was getting finicky, and the coffee post was getting old, we decided to give the DGB700 Grind and Brew a try.

My initial take, is that it makes an excellent cup of coffee, better than my last Krups machine. I am still experimenting with the settings, but so far I am very pleased.

You do need to follow the directions. The key points I have found, is to make sure that the basket parts are dry. This means a quick rinse and dry between pots if you are making more than one.

I also have cleaned out the chute where the ground coffee goes into the basket. It's very easy, and although mine was not clogged after about 6 pots, I did see where the grounds were building up in there a bit. My stand alone burr grinder had the same issue, but the new Cuisinart pot is actually very easy to clean in this area. Just remove the bean hopper, open the chute, push the lever over, and push they grounds into the basket area. (put a filter in first). Actually now, I just clean the chute each time. It takes less than a minute, and I think that this is the one main issues that some people are having.

Also, I have lined up the arrows on the top of the basket. Easy to do, and it avoids some of the negative comments on other reviews. Finally, if you use paper filters, make sure that the top of the plastic basket is going INSIDE the top of the filter.

My wife likes her coffee mild and smooth, but flavorful. My settings to make 12 cups, are 6 Cups on the grind selector knob with Mild or MED on the brew strength selector. The brew has good smooth flavor, and is not bitter. I also drink a lot of iced coffee. I will simply up the strength when I make coffee for that.

Again, so far, so good. I think that following the guide and keeping the machine clean and dry should produce good results.

One last thought... other Grind and Brew brands (Jura Capresso) make a major point about NOT storing beans in the freezer. Actually, I have done this for years, but after doing a bit of Google research, I find that it's better to just keep the beans in an airtight container, and only open what you will use in a couple of weeks. We are doing that now. I do notice that this sees to make the beans less oily, so that may also be a key to why some people get clogs.

I will post a follow-up after I have had the machine for a few months.

OK.. update as of 3/12 the unit is still working well. I do clean the chute after most every pot, but this is easy, and only takes a minute. Again... I strongly suggest NOT storing your beans in the freezer. The research shows that freezing the beans can force oil to the surface of the bean, which can contribute to clogs. I will say that this pot makes excellent tasting coffee.

We have had to return two of these units because the grinder stops working. The problem is that the chute beneath the grinder is horizontal so the coffee grinds have to be pushed into the filter rather than falling in. Even after cleaning, the coffee grounds get packed into the grinding mechanism causing it to break.

I do understand why people say this is a great coffee maker though. When it works, it is very convenient and grinding the beans right before the brewing makes great coffee. I want to like this product but the poor design of the grinding chute makes it unusable.

Cuisinart is a decidedly unhelpful company. If you have a defective product, you can expect long hold times and rude customer service agents. The warranty on this item is that if you pay shipping & handling both ways, they will send you a replacement. After three defective units, they will issue a credit for other cuisinart products.

Update: California law requires them to replace the product without charging for shipping & handling. So, after telling me that they wouldn't waive those charges, they had to waive them anyway due to California law.

Want Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Chrome/Black Discount?

About once every two weeks I have a "bad coffee day" in which my machine just gets persnickity. I am usually guaranteed that I will have to make at least two pots before it gets it right. OK, so I've had this machine at my vacation home for about a year now and here's what I've learned:

1. The paper filters are much more convenient than the metal basket. I just throw the paper filter (preferably the unbleached kindbetter for the environment) into my garden and then all I have to do is rinse the basket and wipe with a sponge. Saves time and my septic system from the coffee grounds.

2. Don't forget to use a filter of some sort in the basket or your counters, cabinets, floors, walls, etc. will get coffee makeover. I am talking from experience.

3. Make sure you clean most of the removable parts before each use. You only need to clean the coffee bean holder every so often (I do it when the beans start to run out). You don't need to do a soap and water cleaning on the other parts but you should wipe them down with a rag or sponge under running water. It only takes a few seconds. Once a week or so toss everything into the dishwasher.

4. Make sure you have enough beans in the holder to brew the amount of coffee you want. As I said above, when it gets low is when you want to do your thorough cleaning.

5. Make sure that you put the carafe in fully and correctly. If there is one BIG criticism I have about this machine is that it's very easy to misplace the pot and give your kitchen a nice coffee tattoo. This most often happens when I am in a hurry and really don't have time to be cleaning up a big mess.

6. Clean the chute. You have to clean the chute regularly. Here are a few tips I've learned to make it easier. First, put a filter in the basket when you do this (I like to do it after I've done the "dishwasher cleaning" of my parts, but before I brew the next pot) but don't put the lid on the basket. That way the grounds will fall directly into the lined basket and if you do this often, there's no reason why you can't just leave them in there while you brew the next pot (your coffee will be a little stronger). Cleaning the chute only take a few seconds.

This is the 3rd incarnation of a Cuisinart grind 'n brew coffee maker I've had. The first was the one with the glass carafe where you had to put the beans in each time you brewed. There were 5 different parts that needed to be soap and water cleaned after each use, and quite frankly, I didn't notice a great improvement in quality of coffee for all the extra work. The second was just like the first except it had the thermal carafe. There was a vast improvement in quality, but again, so many parts to clean made me reluctant to use it. Also, unless you know exactly how to measure unground beans, you pretty much are stuck making a full pot of coffee. This last one has been a great improvement over the other two. I can make just a cup of coffee for myself in the morning or I can make a whole pot and everything in between. Yes there is a bit of labor to it, but considering where they've come from this machine is a vast improvement over the others and I can't stress enough how good the coffee is.

I've read the other reviews and the main things I hear people complaining about are that the pot doesn't pour fast enough and that the coffee isn't hot enough. I don't have a problem with how fast the coffee comes out of the carafe. It is a little slower but the difference is from a 3 second pour to about a 12 second pour. However, if that is unbearable I don't see why you can't just take the lid off of the carafe while you pour? It will come out just as fast as the glass carafe that way.

As for the temperature of the coffee, I am not sure how to address that as I've never found that to be a problem. When I do use the timer feature, I preheat the carafe at night before I set up the coffeemaker and the residual heat still assures that you are starting with a carafe that is not cold in the morning. Generally I don't use the timer and get my coffee immediately after it's done brewing. I also don't preheat my carafe. When I get my second cup in the morning it's still plenty hot so I'm just not sure what all the fuss is about. Of course I don't really like my coffee scalding hot either so maybe it's just a matter of preference.

I would also like to point out that I have recently remodeled my winter home and put in an $1,800 Miele coffeemaker that is built in and plumbed. It can make espresso, cappucino and cofffee with the push of a button. However, that has more parts to fuss with than this Cuisinart and talk about frequent cleaning! It does make the best cup of coffee I've ever had, but it's not all that much better than this unit at a fraction of the cost.

The bottom line is this-if you want a really, really good cup of coffee you either have to go to a coffee shop and pay for it (and often I find their beans much inferior to the ones I use) or put up with the inconvenience of the home machines. As far as I know, no one has come up with the perfect machine yet, but this one does make a most excellent cup of coffee.

So when deciding whether or not you want to buy this machine I would say you would need to ask yourself what's more importantquality or convenience. If you are a coffee fanatic as I am, it will be quality and this machine does come through. If you love coffee but are time challenged and can't be bothered with all the extra steps then I would say that this machine isn't for you.
