I've had this coffee maker for 15 years. Somehow the stopper that stops coffee flow when removing the coffee pot broke after so many years of use, and I started shopping for a new coffee maker. I did not like any of the coffee makers out there, and I was glad when I found a replacement filter basket. The coffee maker now works like new.

Hamilton Beach Two Way Brewer Single Serve and 12-cup Coffee Maker

Have had this coffeemaker for a few weeks and am extremely pleased. Very simple to operate, makes super hot coffee and love the idea of making a pot or just a mug/travel mug. The single serve side utilizes Senseo pods which are quite good and easy to find in my grocery store. You can also use non-pod coffee so options are limitless. It took me a lot of time to find the perfect coffeemaker for my household some of the reviews are scary (flooded kitchens). I absolutely love this coffeemaker and since I can also make just a cup of very hot tea, this has everything I could need.

I bought this coffee maker a few days ago to replace a dated Hamilton Beach 12 cup machine. It solved having to purchase both a new 12 cup maker and a single cup brewer such as a Keurig. The single cup brewer uses the Senseo Pods which although don't have as many varieties available as K-Cups it does produce better tasting coffee.

The single cup side is perfect for making 1 or 2 cups when you don't need to brew a full pot. The carafe is on a hot plate and will stay warm for a couple of hours before it automatically switches off.

I'm only an owner of the product for 1 day, however I have brewed 6 single serves and 1 pot and so far, it works as described.

What I really loved about this machine was/is the concept. However, when I was deciding to purchase, I thought that it required the Senseo pads for the Single cup brew as there was very little info in the product features.

After receiving it, I was pleasantly surprised that the single cup brewing contained a little permanent filter that can be used with standard coffee grinds, awesome don't need to pay for the Senseo if I don't want to. It also came with a pack of 18 senseo pads as well.

Last night was perfect test of the single cup concept. I had already programmed and prepped my 7AM standard coffee brew, however I still wanted a cup of coffee (this happens often). So I switched over to the single cup and brewed my cup, then switched back and pressed the program button to ensure it would still brew the main pot at 7am. Worked like a charm!! Before I would have had to brew the entire 6 cups that were ready, toss out most of it and setup my morning brew all over again.

So far, very happy with the product. I will adjust review / rating as required, but so far 5 stars.

Update : 12/29/2012 1 Year later

It has been a year and the machine is holding up well. No leaks, no cracks, not even surface wear. If I were to notice one thing from day 1 to day 370 is the single cup brewer puts out about 4 drips after it shuts off where as it didn't do that 6 months ago. Again, that is the ONLY thing I notice after a year of use.

We brew about 1 pot in the main craft in the morning, and at least 3 cups on the side using the permanent filter every day. If it were to break today for any reason I would say it was worth the price and would purchase again.

The Scoop was a great replacement for our worn-out Hamilton Beach. Regular brew time for the single cup is about 4 minutes. The bold is about two minutes longer. The removable plates for the single cup allows us to use a variety of cup sizes and adding water and clean up is a breeze. Have only had this for a week, but we are very please. Will let you know if we have problems later, but we are looking at another long-lasting Hamilton Beach product.

KRUPS F4720057 Duo Filters Water Filtration System for KRUPS Coffee Makers, 2-Pack

I purchased 4 Duo Filter F472 for my FMF5. These filters should last through all of 2009 if replaced every 3 months as stated on the box. I noticed my coffee tasting a little bitter over the past few weeks. We throw the carafe in the dishwasher along with all of the parts. I then decided to replace the filter a month early and I noted two shocking things. 1: the filter and the grey filter holder had mold all over it. We could not even pull the filter out without it sticking. 2: The base were the filter holder sits had a puddle of water in the unit. This unit has not been used in over two weeks. I have contacted Krups and they have stated that I need to wait for a supervisor to call me back (24-48hrs) and I should be using a calcium "calcify"cleaner in the machine "often". No exact amount of times but "often" was given.

Be aware that you might have to wipe the water out of the base under the grey filter holder.

Krups suggests :

Descaling

Descaling is necessary to keep your coffee machine running efficiently. The frequency of

descaling depends on the hardness of your water and how often you use the coffee machine.

If you notice the brew cycle has slowed it is generally time to descale the machine.

* Allow half the liquid to run into the carafe, then switch off and let stand for 1 hour.

* Restart the coffee machine to complete the cycle.

* Rinse the coffee machine by running it through 2 full cylces with water only.

* On the timer models if the display continues to read "CALC" repeat the process again.

Makes the best coffee we have ever had. We have been using this filter for about 5 years.

The filters are exactly as ordered and arrived quickly, but Krups has reduced the size of the filters so that now the filter only fills the bottom half of the filter holder, they seem to work just fine though.

I am the world's biggest Keurig milk frother fan, so why am I giving it only 3 stars? Because this expensive and addicting accessory only works reliably for about three months. It froths milk for those first few months like nobody's business, perfectly heating your milk with a snowy mountain of froth on the top and then it stops working. I know this through extensive personal experience, because I have (hangs head in shame) actually paid for three of these puppies that's how obsessed I am with them. I returned the first one after a surprisingly contentious phone conversation with a Keurig representative who all but accused me of breaking the item. "You can only use skim milk with it", she admonished me, even though the advertising blurbs for the item say nothing about that. I have dutifully complied with the rules for frothers #2 and #3, but yesterday, when the third one gave up the ghost, predictably, at the 3-month-mark, I decided that my dysfunctional relationship with the Keurig frother has to end. Time to start buying half-and-half again.

The first unit was purchased last Saturday, and Saturday afternoon, I made delicous and abundant froth for my coffee. The next morning, my husband made it, and it only half frothed. Monday, the unit did not work at all; replaced it. Monday afternoon, new unit must not have heated long enough. No work. Replaced it, thinking third time's a charm--Fool that I was. These units are definitely lemons--not charming. The third one shut off this afternoon after around 35 seconds. I think that is the problem, they are shutting off prematurely. What are the chances that my local Bed, Bath & Beyond got stuck with a shipment of lemons with electrical cords and cheap, plastic frothers?

Found this item cheaper at a local "Bed, Bath and Beyond" store ($79).

This product works as advertised. It has three parts:

1. The base (which plugs into the wall and provides the electricity)

2. The decanter which contains the electrics that heats the milk. There is a socket under the decanter the plugs into and sits loosely the base.

3. The removeable lid that has a stirrer attached to it.

3. The stirrer, which is a tiny wire whisk that you can remove when you only want to heat the milk.

Its very easy to operate... You put the correct amount of milk into the decanter(There are two fill lines, one for froth, and one for hot milk), place the decanter onto the base and press a button. The wire whisk spins around as the unit heats the milk and you get a nice single serving of froth. Remove the whisk and you can simply heat up the milk. The unit shuts itself off automatically when it is finished properly frothing or heating your milk. There's no guesswork at all.

Not only does this product prevent you from cooling off your coffee with cold milk, it makes your coffee look and taste better too. Funny how simply placing a layer of froth on the top of your coffee makes it look ten times more appealing. We tried it using Mocha, Donut Shop, and Butter Toffee flavors. It worked great in each one of those.

After you're done, it's very easy to clean up. Just rinse the decanter out with water (and dish-soap if you want) and rinse off the whisk and stirrer.

Is it worth $80? We think so because, like the Keurig, there's no guess work. Just pour in the milk and press a button.

Its great for getting creative with your coffee! For instance, we created a layered mocha: Pour the froth on the bottom of the cup, add Chocolate Syrup and then the coffee on top of that.
