Nescafe Dolce Gusto Single Serve Coffee Machines

Nescafe KP210050 Dolce Gusto Single-Serve Coffee Machine, BlackThis is a GREAT coffee machine. I have purchased a Sanso, Tassimo, Keurig and now the Nescafe Dolce Gusto. I threw away the Sanso (lousy coffee), gave away the Tassimo, (lousy coffe..good cocoa), love the Keurig and love this Nescafe Dolce. Here are the differences that I have noticed between the two, in my opinion, best machines on the market. The Nescafe makes great coffee. This machines also allows you to make your coffee any way you want it. You must MANUALLY turn off the water out pour when you feel coffee is done to your liking. It DOES NOT automatically turn off. That is cool. I like my coffee very dark so I turn the water off 3/4 of the cup. My daughter, a little longer for a lighter cup. Still delicious. The Keurig has more variety, but I am sure the Dolce will catch up soon enough. The Keurig also has a K-Cup that allows you to put in your own coffee or tea to use rather than using a purchased k-cup. I love that feature. I also love having tea from the Keurig something the Nescafe Dolce doesn't have. What I love about the Nescafe are the gourmet/specialty coffees. Keurig doesn't have these. The Nescafe coffees are amazingly tasty. Much tastier than I had anticipated and take moments to make. Follow the directions in the pamphlet that comes with the machine for the best tasting coffees you will ever have from a machine. Actually, probably from anywhere. I am keeping the Keurig at my home for my morning green tea and evening mint tea, but bringing the Nescafe Dolce to my office for my afternoon specialty pick me up coffee Best of both worlds all day long!!

I want to love this machine. If you are considering purchasing the Dolce Gusto machine I STRONGLY suggest you sample the coffee first (I think Sur La Table has demo machines). Here's what I like about the machine:

* The design is sleek.

* It's well made and sturdy.

* The machine heats the water up really fastonce you turn it you're ready to make coffee in well under a minute.

* The machine is incredibly easy to use. (see attached video for a demo of a cappuccino)

* No real cleanup required after each use.

Now for the bad...

* The machine comes with a latte macchiato glass, a cappuccino cup and saucer. Unfortunately the packaging was very poor (not enough bubble wrap) and the saucer arrived cracked.

* The coffee is horrible. As good as the physical machine is... it is only as good as the coffee it makes. All the milk based Dolce Gusto drinks are excessively sweet, taste artificial and have a ton of sugar and have anywhere from 3.5g-6g of fat.

*The non-milk drinks are very disappointing as well. Both the espresso and lungo aren't very strong and taste very average.

I have posted video demonstrations for each of the drinks in my reviews of :

* Cappuccino

* Espresso

* Chococino

* Caffe Lungo

* Latte Macchiato

I've tried everything but the $800+ machines. Nothing gave me real high-pressure brewing and real steamed milk. Until now. The Dolce Gusto's cappuccino, espresso, latte and coffee are among the best I've ever had. The hot chocolate alone would justify buying one. I can literally have a cup of excellent cappuccino within two minutes of walking into the kitchen in the morning. The unit is simple enough to use when half asleep, and is a snap to clean.

The heart of the Dolce Gusto is a 15-bar pressure pump coupled with a flash heater: water is ready for brewing instantly, and at espresso-making pressure. No warmup and no pressure tank to worry about. The pressure is so high that only a needle-sized hole in the top of the cartridge is required for brewing.

The cartridge is shaped such that the beverage never touches the machine.

I rinse the easily removed cartridge holder after every brew, but it's not really necessary--nothing gets on it. Other occasional maintenance includes rinsing the drip tray and water reservoir as necessary, and examining/cleaning the injector needle periodically. The system is so well designed that the cartridges rarely drip after being removed from the holder.

Brewing is simple. For coffee, put the cartridge in the holder, flip the locking lever down, and push the water selector to the hot setting. Stop the water when the coffee is done to your liking. For milk-containing drinks (cappuccino, latte, hot chocolate and iced latte), it's a two step process. The milk cartridge goes in first, the milk is steamed until the proper amount is in the cup, the coffee cartridge goes in, and the appropriate amount of coffee goes into the cup. Done. No preheat time, and no fixed cycle like some other cartridge brewing systems, so you can get the coffee exactly the way you want it.

An undocumented feature is that hot water can be obtained without a cartridge being installed: cups/mugs can be preheated before brewing, ensuring the coffee remains steaming hot, and hot water is instantly available for oatmeal or tea. Beats an expensive hot water dispenser.

The Dolce Gusto makes the best hot chocolate I've ever had. It's rich, dark, not too sweet, and it's frothy, steamy, and completely smooth. My wife was sold by the hot chocolate even before she tasted the coffee. Apparently a mocha flavor is scheduled for 2009: a coffee cartridge and a chocolate cartridge. Yum.

There's one nit, though. The cappuccino and latte drinks don't come as decaf. The drinks are packaged as sets of coffee and milk cartridges together in a single box, so mixing and matching say, decaf espresso with a milk isn't possible. This is a bit of an issue with me, since a late night cappuccino may result in my being wired all night. Not sure why Krups hasn't addressed this, because I suspect it's an issue for a lot of potential buyers.

The out of box experience is great. Krups includes 2 each of all available drinks, along with a latte glass and a cup. Having the latte glass is nice, because you can see that the coffee does indeed form a layer between the hot milk and the froth, just like in the picture. The cup and glass both have handles strategically placed to act as guides for the first few brews, and the brewing instructions are a picture for each type of beverage, showing the cartridges used, the order, and the approximate volume of milk and coffee to brew. No annoying manual to read before using the product. I was brewing coffee within minutes of unpacking.

We're absolutely delighted with the Dolce Gusto. I'd given up on ever having real cappuccinos and lattes at home, and could rarely justify the drive to the local chain and the cost. Kudos to Krups for a breakthrough product.

This is an excellent coffee maker. I am military stationed in Germany and have owned one of these for about a month now. It is one of the best kitchen items I have ever bought. The variety of coffees that can be made "one" cup at a time is awesome. My family and I have tried the Cafe Lungo (regular coffee), Latte Macchiato, Cappuccino, Mocha, Espresso, and Chococino (hot chocolate). They all came out tasting great. The froth on the cappuccino and latte is perfect. I have always wanted a cappuccino machine and this definitely fits the bill...and then some. It's a lot easier to use than a cappuccino machine and a lot easier to clean and maintain (almost no cleaning involved). Also, once you have water in the big reservoir and flip on the switch, I can have a cup of coffee in about a minute.

I love my coffee. When I was first given the opportunity a few months ago to try the Dolce Gusto, I thought it was a gimmick that would make gas-station-style, mediocre coffee-like beverages. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of espresso that this machine makes. I have reviewed all of the varieties elsewhere, so that's all I will say about that.

Espresso & coffee use only a single pod. The custom drinks take two, and therefore are twice as expensive, but still well within budget.

The best thing about the maker is how easy it is to use. My 15-month old can run it. She can open the bin, put the pod in, close it, push the on button, wait til it turns green (meaning the water's heated), flip the lever on, and then flip it off. It is seriously simple and quick.

Finally, I have found a use that I have not heard many talking about: tea maker/water heater. If you take the pod out of the bin and run the Dolce Gusto, you have an automatic water heater. I will often put a tea bag in a cup and run the hot water directly in. Quick cup of tea without having to boil or microwave water.

Delonghi Delonghi Magnifica Digital Espresso Machine

Delonghi Delonghi Magnifica Digital Espresso MachineWell the machine was good until the warranty ran out. It started leaking water a little at a time, then the water stopped flowing into my cup and just ran out from under the machine. I am pretty handy so I thought I would take the back off and see if it could be fixed. I found that the heating element that the water flows through has a small hole in it. No problem I will just order one and be done with it. NOT gonna happen. It appears that some genius at Delonghi made the decision not to let customers that spend over $1000 dollars on a $200 machine buy internal parts, of course they want to rape me on repair charges plus the shipping both ways. The repair takes all of maybe 15 minutes if I had the part. If anyone knows where I can order a heating element please let me know. I will NEVER buy another Delonghi product!!!

Mr. Coffee Coffeemaker Cleaner for All Automatic Drip Coffeemakers, 2-Ounce Box (Pack of 9)

Mr. Coffee Coffeemaker Cleaner for All Automatic Drip Coffeemakers, 2-Ounce BoxExactly as described. Great filters for making great coffee! Will order these again for my Mr. Coffee 10 cup maker.

All electric coffee machines require cleaning. Most suggest this be done once a week to keep it operating at peak performance. I would suggest getting the large carton of these cleaners to save money in the long run. The process of using this is easy and takes about 20 minutes to finish the entire cleaning procedure.

Krups FNP112-42 Espremio Espresso/Cappuccino/Latte Maker

Krups FNP112-42 Espremio Espresso/Cappuccino/Latte MakerAfter too many trips to Starbucks, I unfortunately have become too choosy about my java. The basic cup of coffee just won't do. Thus began the search for the least expensive espresso machine that made a decent shot of espresso.

.... when I happened upon the Krups Espremio mismarked at a local retailer .... I couldn't resist trying it.

The first 3 cups were no better than coffee. I later realized that was because I was using basic grocery store brand coffee. Once I tried using genuine, properly ground espresso beans, Starbucks had met their match. If you purchase coffee beans from Starbucks, they will ground them for you at no charge, as well. The Starbucks brand is a bit bitter in my opinion, so I am eager to branch out to other brands of espresso.

As for the Krups Espremio itself... I'm happy with it. It doesn't leak. It is easy to keep clean. It heats quickly. The frother is great. It makes a nice head of crema.

HOWEVER, as you'll already know, it only makes one single serving at a time. It does complicate making a double latte, but I've made four singles in a decent amount of time.

.... BUT REMEMBER TO USE THE RIGHT COFFEE.

There is a clear echo here, so to simply quote the experience of another reviewer, "after two months the steamer ceased to function properly and steam came out of the espresso head instead."

Rather than paying to ship the unit to Krups myself---clearly, the company cannot afford to pay shipping on the thousands of these cheaply made units---I hauled the Krups FNP112-42 down to my workshop and found that the hose to the steamer had detached.

Well, fixing that problem did not render the FNP112-42 usable, for now it simply exhaled steam in great plumes like a bull in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Cleaning the unit per the directions from Krups did nothing whatsoever. Nor did shaking it robustly or inserting various instruments into the nonworking nozzles serve any purpose, but at least I felt a bit better.

Turns out the only thing getting steamed was me. . .

I'm going to buy a good espresso maker this year for Christmas and I can promise you that it will not have the word Krups emblazoned on it.

As a Starbucks employee of almost 2 years at my college... I know how to brew espresso and properly make drinks. My roommates got this for me as a Christmas present at the Field Days Sale so I could make coffee drinks for all of our late night study sessions. After about 2 months of use... the steamer ceased to function properly and steam came out of the espresso head instead. I contacted a service advisor at Krups' website and it turns out that I would have to ship the machine to the nearest service center in Illinois on my own dime. No thank you! I'll find something better.

For the price, this machine is hard to top. It's very sturdy, none of the parts are flimsy, and it gets the job done. It's perfect if you are like me (a bachelor) and get up in the morning and want to make yourself a latte or espresso for yourself. The steam wand works remarkably well for such a low-priced model. I've used professional espresso makers before and I was pleasantly suprised with the performance. Overall, I recommend this for people who are looking for the best of the low-priced end of Espress makers. You'll have a hard time finding anything that works better for this price.

I live in northern Italy where the cappuccinos are only surpassed by those in southern Italy, and though by no means does the cafe this machine produces taste just like the cafe in Italy. It sure does come close!!

Stella Inox Lucido 6-cup Stainless Steel Stovetop Espresso Maker #496

Stella Inox Lucido 6-cup Stainless Steel Stovetop Espresso Maker #496That's what I said to myself the first time I made a cup of espresso in my Stella Inox Lucido. I was looking for a non-electric, stainless steel stove-top espresso maker that had no plastic or aluminum parts. I also wanted the option of making one cup for me or two cups for for both myself and my husband. We drink more in our cup than the standard espresso sized cup. this has the stainless steel "mesh" which can be turned over for 1-3 cups, but I find that it works fine by just putting less coffee grounds into the basket. I also did find that you really should have at least 1/2 a pot of water for it to percolate properly, which means at least 3 espresso-sized cups must be made at a time. If I need to make more than one pot, I simply run it under cool water and it cools off very quickly so it can be handled and refilled right away.

This espresso maker is solidly built and Although I do not open it up by the handle, the handle feels sturdy. If I pour just half the pot into my cup and keep the rest in the pot, the thick stainless steel retains enough heat to keep the coffee warm for me to drink about 15 minutes later. I grind my coffee beans super fine and I get only a tiny amount of the finest powder in the bottom of the cup.

One of the best things about this espresso maker besides making great tasting coffee, is the ingenious handle design. Being angled out, if I set the pot just on the edge of the flame, the handle actually stays cool and I don't need a pot holder to lift it off the stove and pour into a cup.

I am so happy with my choice espresso maker, I can't think of anything I don't like about it. Like I said, Perfect!

KRUPS XP160050 Coffee Maker and Espresso Machine Combination, Black

KRUPS XP160050 Coffee Maker and Espresso Machine Combination, BlackThis Espresso maker is so much better than the older model. It is important to read the instructions as they are a little different than the previous model. The milk foams beautifully and the coffee it makes is excellent. Persistence pays. I had purchased the previous models which did not work properly. I called Krups and they had me send it to repair which I did. Repair was unable to do anything. Krups then sent me the current model which works very well. The process of all this was simple and cost me nothing but a little time.KRUPS XP160050 Coffee Maker and Espresso Machine Combination, Black

This is the second Krups product I've bought (and returned) recently. The heavy smell of plastic didn't go away after washing and running several cycles of water through this horrible coffee maker. Not to mention the fact that the espresso side didn't work at all; it would not heat up! I returned this awful product the same day I received it. Krups used to be a name you could relate to quality. Now they produce only junk. I wish I could have given it zero stars.

I advise you to stay clear of this terrible product .... and this company.

Smelled like burnt plastic even after one weeks use. I did not like the taste of the coffee ,although it was hot. My husband cut his hand on a sharp plastic piece on the carafe more than once. The unacceptable taste was reason enough to return it, so we never even tried the espresso part. Very disappointed!

Coffeepro CP6B Coffeemaker, 4-Cup, 6-1/2 in.x7-1/4 in.x10 in., Black

Coffeepro CP6B Coffeemaker, 4-Cup, 6-1/2 in.x7-1/4 in.x10 in., BlackThe cone shaped filters I think why this coffeemaker makes a very rich delicious cup of coffee.I like everything about it. i brew about 9 cups a day for myself. I have it about a month,I paid about $40.00 a little expensive, but if it lasts a year or more it's worth it.

I've had no mechanical problems with this coffee maker and it makes a good pot of coffee. My two concerns are that I had to put about 10 pots of fresh water through to reduce the slight plastic smell before making my first pot of coffee. The mesh filter insert is nice for getting the most flavor out of coffee, but you need to be careful because the small cone filter can get pushed in so that a lot of the hot water runs down next to the filter. A big disappointment when you're waiting for your fist cup! I've solved that problem by wetting the filter with water before I put the coffee in and making sure that the leading edge is pretty well tucked in next to the mesh filter.

Ovente MPA Stovetop Espresso Maker - 4 Sizes (3oz, 6oz, 9oz, 12oz)

Ovente MPA Stovetop Espresso Maker Size: 3 CupThe coffee maker works fine. However after about 4 weeks of use, the little handle on the lid melted off. Furthermore, it is not dishwasher safe. For the price it is fine, but the quality is lacking.

Product was bent when we received it. Very cheap feeling. Doesn't say "Ovente" anywhere on the box or coffee maker. All the five-star reviews are within a week of each other. This is a scam and needs to be removed, Amazon.
