This review is not so much about the product as the seller. I purchased this bundle as a gift for the holiday season, spending around $50.00 in shipping to make sure the product was received with enough time for wrapping. I was very animate on checking the tracking to confirm my one package would be here and it came on the 21st to my great enjoyment. So why the 1 star review? The entire contents of the "package" were missing, only the nespresso machine and 1 cup were in the box. While the gift receiver was still excited for the machine, it was infuriating to know that my entire product was not included.

After contacting Amazon.com, I received a notice that they were shipped separately. Although no second tracking number was provided. Then several weeks later I received a Nespresso Coffee holder, however it is not the one listed on the page...and I am still waiting on that second cup.

All I can say is that the Nespresso Machine is great but the "package" is not.

Bialetti Venus, 6 Cup

Bialetti Venus, 6 CupI've got two Bialetti stainless. I've had this model for probably about 10 years (slightly older version, looks exactly like this except with a metal flipper on the top) . I now use it as my back up model. I make two cups of cappuccino every morning for my wife, and usually two cups in the afternoon Saturday and Sunday as well. I've had no real problems with this pot. I have to replace the washer (seal) between the top and bottom parts of the pot about every 7 or 8 months.

To use this pot effectively, I recommend the following:

1. Use a fine/espresso grind of coffee. You can use a coarser grind, but water rushes through it too fast.

2. Tamp down the coffee in the coffee holder a little bit, but don't get obsessed with it. I suppose if you want pure espresso, go heavy on the coffee and lighter on the water. We always do cappuccino.

3. For speed, pre-heat the water. We use a cordless electric kettle to get the water up to temp quicker before adding it to the pot. Usually I fill it to the point where the coffee holder just hits the water. That way I make the most coffee, without causing the water to flow out when I drop the coffee holder in. Oh, yeah, you'll now need a towel to hold the pot while screwing the pot together since you added hot water to it. I twist it down good and tight.

4. I use high heat on the stove. I get the job done quick. Just make sure the cups are ready. Usually I'm heating milk in the frother in the microwave while the espresso maker is busy making coffee. When the coffee is ready, its ready, and you need to be on top of it, otherwise it will spatter out.

5. Cleaning: When you go to use the coffee maker again, you MUST clean the sealing washer. Otherwise the leftover coffee grounds on it will prevent it sealing for the next time. I use the scrubbing side of a scrunge to get the grounds out of the washer. As you use the pot, the washer will soften up over time, and you'll have to scrub harder to get the grounds out. After a while, I'll flip the washer over and use the other side to seal against the lower half of the pot. It works for a while, but eventually you'll have to replace the washer. I recommend keeping spares on hand.

Every so often (few weeks) I scrub out the lower half of the pot with an sos pad. It gets rid of occasional coffee residue which seeps back down to the lower half and sometimes burns on to the bottom of the lower half of the pot. It can cause a burned taste in the coffee.

Occasionally I've had to pull the filter plate out and "clean" it. Just lift the seal washer to get to it. The problem I've had every once in awhile is grounds plugging the filter plate. If you hold it up to the light, you should be able to see through the holes in the filter plate. If grounds block any of them, just use a needle to poke through the blockage.

I'd guess I've made about 1500 pots of coffee with this espresso pot. I think I've got it pretty well down. Follow the directions above and I think this coffee pot will work for you for a very, very long time.

An Update Concerning Induction: I tested it with a magnet. It indicated that this is pure stainless, i.e. the magnet wouldn't stick, and is thus unsuitable for an induction top. This is the test for all cookware for use with an induction top. If the magnet won't stick, it won't work.

The one feature I especially like about this pot is its wide bottom. It's very stable and doesn't teeter on a gas burner like some others (i.e., the "Ilsa") do. The handle doesn't get burning hot like metal handles can. It has a straightforward design and is easy to disassemble and clean. I have been making stovetop espresso in pots like this for 15+ years and this is one of the most satisfactory pots I have had. A good value.

Buy Bialetti Venus, 6 Cup Now

Use med.-low heat for gas and you are ready in 11 minutes. Make sure the stainless steel filter is always facing in the right direction or the expresso maker will leak. Be aware that they are talking about expresso cups (demitasse 2.5 oz cup) and not the savage sized coffee addicts cup we Americans are use to using. Also, most civilized people add milk at a ratio of 1:1, so if you make five demitasse cups of expresso (12.5 oz.), then your coffee maker should produce around 6 oz. of pure expresso.

The Bialetti espresso maker came on time, in its original Bialetti packaging and with all of the parts unbroken and without any dents or scratches.

I love the look and style of this espresso maker. I have only used it a few times now and the biggest disappointment has been that it doesn't seal properly. Steam comes out of the sides while the water is heating no matter how tightly you close it. Even my husband couldn't get it closed well enough. Maybe it will take some time on this...

The other small disappointment was that I thought it would make more espresso. I was hoping this could function as our coffee-maker (we like it really strong!) so it would have to make enough for two cups of coffee. It looks so large, but the looks are deceiving. While it does make just barely enough for the two of us, if we ever had guests, I would need to wait for it to cool and then make more or buy another one!

Overall it makes yummy coffee and it looks super-cool, but if I had to do it over again, I would have bought the biggest one they make.

I got this as a present. I had used other cheaper modules of the same brand so I was very excited but the threads never matched up and it didnt seal enough to produce anything remotley like coffee let alone espresso. I was very disappointed that this one was so cheaply made that when I called the manufactures they said that becouse I had used it they wouldnt give me another one. I have had success with this manufacture in the past but beware they are hard to get a hold of and not very nice with there customer service.

Yama Coffee Siphon with butane burner

Yama Coffee Siphon with butane burnerI've always wanted to try out a vacuum brewer, and so I bought this one since it had a great price and included a burner. I have used the burner a few times at the table, but I have found I mostly prefer to simply use the gas stove. The butane burner does work well and has plenty of heat to get the job done. Plus the whole package is very handsome.

I didn't think I'd use this much because it's a bit more of a hassle than a french press, but I like the coffee it makes so much that I use it every day. I'm surprised it makes coffee that is better than the french press, but it does make it a lot smoother and the cup has absolutely no grounds or mud in it.

I roast my own coffee now, and this the perfect companion to the roaster for the way I like coffee, which is smooth, consistent, and flavorful. Plus it is fun to watch it work. The included bottom glass makes enough to for two normal sized coffee cups or one large mug for the road. It includes 5 cloth filters, and I have used the same one for many months now. Daily cleanup is with the sink sprayer which gets the filter clean enough for more use. Then once a week, I pull the filter out of the metal holder and clean it up well.

The amazon page states quite a long lead time for shipping, but it came in just over a week--which was great.

If you love a French Press, but want to move into something a bit more elegant and exotic to make coffee the Siphon Based System is just the answer. I opted for this device because it is fueled by Butane Gas the same gas to fill Cigarette Lighters.

If you love hot coffee that is not burnt or over cooked, and you wish to get away from the paper filters, this Siphon Pot of perfect. I loved it.

My parents used a vacuum coffee maker back in the 1950's...that being said the absolutely best cup of coffee I've ever had in my life was in Jakarta (on, of course, the island of Java) from a table-top vacuum coffee maker.

This product makes absolutely perfect coffee. The presentation for guests is amazing.

YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS COFFEE MAKER.

Frabosk 5 5/8" Induction Heat Diffuser Plate

Frabosk 5 5/8' Induction Heat Diffuser PlateI bought the Frabosk 8 3/4" and the 5 5/8" plate for use with my Electrolux Induction Range.

Pro's: They're very nice looking and very well made

Con's: Although they work, they don't work well. The heat transfer is v...e...r...y sloooooow! I could not get the toast for a grilled cheese to brown. I could boil water slowly. And the handles go through and are unusable while heating which kind of makes the handles useless.

The diffuser plate is costly (which is why I got the smaller size though I wish I had the larger) but still cheaper than replacing all my favorite pots which otherwise couldn't be used with my induction cooktop.

FrancisFrancis! X1 Espresso Machine

FrancisFrancis! X1 Espresso Machine, RedThis amazing, gorgeous machine was a gift from several friends who stayed at our house for a week, and it is hands down the greatest gift we've ever gotten.

First of all, it's orange. Orange! We don't even touch the coffee machine anymore, except when we run out of milk. Second, the espresso is delightful, frothy, thick -and the foamer foams like nobody's business. And it's amazingly simple to clean up after-we used to have a Krups that required three times the amount of post-cappuccino cleanup for a drink that was only a third as good.

Also, people marvel when they come over. They gawk and gape, openmouthed. "What is this beautiful orange thing?" they ask. We are the envy of the entire neighborhood. Men covet; women swoon.

Did I mention that there's a picture of little girl with her tongue sticking out on the temperature gauge? They're clever people, those Italian espresso machine makers. Such a delightful sense of humor.

Did I mention we love it?

I bought this machine 7 years ago and since then I use it on a daily basis. It has given me much pleasure and I haven't run into any problems at all. I bought it together with an extra portafilter for using pods (more expensive, but very convenient since no cleaning afterwards is needed).

Pro's:

design (temperature indicator needs a lot of time to adjust, so it should be considered as decorative only)

reliable (I can only say its construction is reasonably good and it works already 7 years without problems)

easy-to-use, no complicated switches/options

Contra:

cup holder does NOT get warm. This is a serious problem, since you can't drink espresso in cold cups since then the coffe will cool down immediately. I 'solved' this by putting hot water from the espressomachine itself into the cups and then wait for 20 seconds before actually making the espresso. When you want to make 5 espresso's in a row it takes quite some time.

waterreservoir is at back side, and difficult to reach.

making one espresso takes about 20 seconds. Other machines can do it in 10 seconds.

Recently I bought an espresso machine for my father and after some thinking I decided not to give him a Francis, but a "Gaggia classic coffee machine" because Gaggia solved the above drawbacks: The Gaggia's construction is stronger and more reliable, and its cup holder does get warm. However, later I discovered that the cups themselves only get warm if you leave the machine switched on the entire day and I don't do that so I still need the water pre-heating trick. Good point is that the Gaggia is fast: 10 seconds for 1 espresso.

My overal conclusion is that the Francis is a machine that gives me pleasure for already 7 years and of course, with any machine you will discover a few minor drawbacks after using it that long. Decide for yourself whether these drawbacks are really drawbacks.

I purchased this unit along with a friend and we were both very unsatisfied by the quality of coffee this beautiful machine produced. I'll keep this review short: it is not powerful, is fragile, and does not make a consistent cup of coffee (I know all of the tricks, I used to be a barrista in Milan). For the best machine under [this price], try the Rancilio Silvia 90. With the extra money you save, you can buy a matching Rancilio Rocky Grinder.

I have had a X1 in more than 4 years (since Oct 1997) and it has made a lot of excellent cups of espresso for me. I have some minor problems. After about a year the external thermometer stop working. Not really important as it is only for display, the internal thermostat is still working. Second, it is starting to rust under the dip grill. Third, the rubber sealing above the filter holder is starting to leak.

I am using grinded coffee and I have found that it is somewhat sensitive to loading the filter holder with the correct amount of coffee. To much coffee and the compressor can not press the water thru the coffee, to little coffee and you will not get any crema.

Want FrancisFrancis! X1 Espresso Machine Discount?

Two months ago I bought the X1 from the new serie "X1 by appointment" at the online store azone.ch. Discount price about 500 USD including a box of 18 E.S.E pods from AMICI. The inventor of the machine Francesco Illy is a "pope" of the coffee industry. He founded the "Francis Francis" Company in Switzerland. His father and grandfather are the founder of the "ILLY" coffee brand. A name for sophisticated taste of coffee. Francesco Illy started to launch his own brand "AMICI". There are actually 4 different E.S.E. pods available. My favourites are the "Espresso" (silver box with red stripe) and "Ristretto" (..with black stripe). Please check amici.ch for more information. So, that's a little bit about history and now my review: When I read the negative postings I wonder why there are some problems when using the machine or why the coffee gives some people only average joy. Here my suggestions for a real espresso experience:

Rule 1: Strictly use the E.S.E. pods....the one from AMICI or LAVAZZA I can suggest. Not try to use non-E.S.E. pods. They will not fit perfectly.

Rule 2: Buy some high quality espresso cups. If the porcelain is robust and thick it can keep and lead the warmth much better.

Rule 3: Always use pre-heatened cup. Place them on top of the coffee machine. I never turn off the machine. If you switched of the machine, wait about 20 minutes before preparing coffee.

And important: Pour one espresso cup of water before inserting any pod. This guarantees, that the cup gets his temperature and that the machine gets its operation temperature.

Rule 4: Keep your machine clean. After every use clean the pad-holder. Put it in the machine (be sure there are no pods inside) and simply pour water for about 10 seconds trough it.

Rule 5: For the ones who experienced damages, I think, they didn't threat it correctly! After using the steam YOU MUST SWITCH BACK to the espresso mode and activate the toggle switch for espresso. Simply pour water about 20 seconds. Now the boiler will not overheat and protects the machine. If you do not follow that rule your machine could be damaged seriously!

Final commentary: Those people who wants to compare the X1 with any one from Braun for about 99 USD and think the taste is the same, I must only say, that they have no concept of good coffee taste. The Francis Francis is nothing for people who confuse real espresso flavor with the over-sweeted plastic or paper taste of any Mc Donalds or Dunkin' Donuts sewage.

The first time I have seen the X1 I knew, soon or less I will purchase it. The unmistakable design didn't relinquish myself anymore. Every day walking to the kitchen, the Francis Francis X1 smiles at me. A machine to take into one's heart.

Bodum Chambord 8 cup French Press Coffee Maker, 34 oz., Chrome

Bodum Chambord Coffee PressOkay, to some the idea of using a French press coffee maker is a little too precious, bordering on snobbishness. I used to be in that boat until a few hours ago. Tonight on a whim, I purchased this Bodum French press. Now I should warn you readers that it is generally NOT a good idea to test out your shiny new french press when you are getting home at 10:30pm on a Monday after spending way too much money at Target when you just ran in to get "dog food". I write this review so heavily caffienated that I will probably stay up until dawn tonight re-organizing my closets or alphabetizing my CD collection or doing some other useless task. Despite being a daily coffee drinker (of the muddy variety the office's Bunn machine churns out), one cup from the french press has knocked me into the stratosphere, and that alone is worth giving this product 5 stars.

My caffiene overdose aside, this press produces the best coffee I have ever had at home, and it truly rivals or surpasses coffee I've had at coffee houses. It's slightly more involved than using an automatic maker, but not difficult at all. The unit itself is pretty sturdy, and looks lovely.

French press coffee is a great alternative to using those smaller 1-2 cup automatic drip makers. Being single, I've gone through my share of those, and the coffee they make alway seems about ten times worse than the coffee from a normal-sized drip maker. If you like to make a large pot of coffee and drink it throughout the morning, I would suggest picking up a good quality carafe or thermos to keep the coffee warm.

Pros:

-Best tasting coffee you'll ever have at home, period.

-Strong, full bodied flavor

-Pretty easy to prepare

-Impress your friends with your snobby european coffee-making ways :) (looks good on your counter too)

-Great for making small amounts of coffee, for one or two people.

-Priced about the same as a ho-hum auto drip coffee maker with no extra bells and whistles, yet makes coffee a million times better.

Cons:

-More cleanup than using a automatic drip maker

-No heating element to keep coffee warm. Use a thermos/carafe if you want to sip several cups over a few hours.

8-cup capacity is based on a 4oz beverage size. Not really a "con" but something you should be aware of. If you had a large group you were making coffee for, it might get a little tedious to be constantly making a fresh batch of coffee.

Couple other notes: Coarsely ground coffee is recommended. This is no problem for people that already buy whole bean and grind their own, but it will be an extra step for some people. Also, I recommend picking up an Aerolatte milk frother if you want to make truly effortless cappuchino. I find that there's plenty of time to warm some milk in the microwave and froth it up while the coffee brews for 4 mintues. A $20 Aerolatte milk frother + $24 french press = coffeehouse coffee at home, whenever you want it. That's really a tiny investment for coffeehouse quality java!

I also purchased a smaller 1-cup Bodum press to take to work. Tomorrow I plan to smile smugly while my co-workers chug down the crap that comes out of the Bunn machine. If my boss is really nice, I may let him use it too. Maybe.

I previously owned a (much) smaller version of this press, which made an excellent cup of coffee. But that was the problem. It only made a CUP of coffee. I usually have two, and what if others want coffee? It takes a while, going one cup at a time.

Needless to say, I upgraded to this larger press, which makes about 3 times more coffee. It makes the best coffee ever I could never go back to a junky old drip coffee maker after this. Yeah, it's more work than a drip coffee maker, but really, would you rather have quick, easy coffee that tastes bad, or a delicious cup of coffee that takes 5 minutes more?

Using this is like steeping tea you boil some water, grind some coffee beans (I hope you're grinding your own coffee beans!) and pour the water over the coffee grounds to let them steep for 4 minutes. Then you push the knob down, which filters delicious coffee into the water and leaves the grounds at the bottom of your pot. Then, voila! You've got about 3 cups of yummy coffee, depending on to what extent you water your cup down with cream and sugar.

If you're one of those people who just CAN'T WAIT for their coffee, you'd be better off getting a typical drip coffee maker. But if you love coffee, and want it to taste as good as it possibly can, you have to buy this press.

A french press is one of the best methods of brewing coffee at home. I have never liked the "drip method" machines like Mr Coffee which, in my opinion, produce a very bland cup of coffee. Some reviews have mentioned the extra effort involved in comparison to a drip machine. This really is not a big issue. You have to boil the water separately and remember to press the plunger down when the coffee has finished brewing. The clean up is about the same.

Some tips for getting the most out of this machine. Always use coarsely ground coffee. I've found a 9 second burst with my grinder works best. You'll have to experiment. I also gently shake the grinder while using it. This results in a more even grind. With this approach I have very little sediment in my final cup.

Allow the boiled water to cool for a minute before adding to the grounds. This seems to produce a less bitter cup. Finally, stir the grounds and water with a chopstick or similar. Let the coffee brew, then press the plunger down *slowly*.

If making more than one cup per person, store the extra in a vacuum flask. The coffee cools very quickly if left in the press.

Always clean your grinder. Oils accumulate very quickly resulting in increasingly bitter coffee.

A friend loaned me this great coffee press. It's the best coffee brewing system I've found, but more time consuming to use and clean up. Please note also that 8 cups is wildly optimistic. That's four-ounce cups. I real life, you get about two good 10-12 ounce mugs of coffee.

At the time I ordered, the item was described on Amazon as having a glass beaker, but the one I received was plastic.

Some may prefer this because it's unbreakable; I was disappointed. I specifically wanted the glass one because I trying to avert plastic's that might leech chemicals into food. The plastic version also differed in that filter screen was held together with some plastic components, whereas the glass version uses all metal parts (with the exception of the lid).

I ended up returning the item (which sours the whole on-line shopping experience) and buying a glass version at a local retailer instead. One where I could verify I was getting the glass version that I desired. I'm very happy with it and use it daily.

So, if you want to order this item from Amazon, please double-check that your getting what you want.

Many coffee drinkers are inflexible on one point and that is the necessity to brew coffee in a glass container only! I used to be in this "glass camp", and I broke beaker after beaker in every coffee press I had. I am ham-fisted and lack the delicacy needed to make any glass coffee maker last longer than a few weeks.

I had a Brazilian polycarbonate coffee press and it lasted nine years. It finally came apart because it had been made in two pieces, and the two simply came apart because they were not injection-molded as one piece.

Then I discovered this Bodum Chambord 8-cup press and am delighted to say that it is absolutely perfect for me. The beaker is made of polycarbonate, like my old Brazilian one, but unlike that one, the Bodum is one solid piece, with no mold marks, seams, or anything else to come undone.

One other nice thing about it is that the beaker is big enough in diameter so that I can get my hand in it easily, and that's a big plus for cleaning the coffee pot thoroughly.

The coffee tastes great, needless to say, and unless I do something exceptionally stupid, this coffee pot should last me the rest of my life.

Espressione 1328 Cafe Dolce Aroma Digital Super-Automatic Espresso Machine

Espressione 1328 Cafe Dolce Aroma Digital Super-Automatic Espresso MachineMy husband has had the Espressione Cafe Dolce Aroma now for over 6 months. We've used it at home, in the office and for parties. It has made hundreds upon hundreds of cups of wonderful espresso coffee beverages. Easy to easy, easy to clean and the performance in incredible for the price.

I recommend this highly.

This machine is easy to use and it does what it sais, used it for almost a year. Very happy with it, the other day was making espressos non-stop for visitors very consistent. It comes with an instructional DVD that shows the function of every button, the cool thing too is that the brewing unit actually comes right out for easy cleanup if need be. Considering that it automatically grinds, apportions, extracts coffee, then it rinses and cleans itself, and it 's easy to program for strength and size i don't know what some are talking about but this thing performs greatly especially considering the price that it comes with. If you want a superautomatic espresso machine that's going to make espresso with a simple push of a button and look great in your kitchen without costing you an arm and a leg, then this Cafe Dolce baby is it!

I do not agree with the reviews that have been written on this machine. I have the Espressione 1328 Cafe Dolce Aroma. The purchase was made after a friend told me this was designed and made by the company that makes DeLonghi automatic espresso machine. I did not want to spend over $1000.00 for a digital super automatic coffee machine and this machine is perfect. What I like about it is the following:

* Electronic programming of level of coffee per cup

* Easy to use 8 button control panel with quality LED indicators

* Powerful milk frothing device for making perfect Cappuccinos and Lattes

* Removable central unit for easy cleaning and maintenance

* Powerful 1100 Watt heating/brewing/frothing mechanism ensures reliability and quality

* Fully automatic cleaning, rinsing, decalcifying & pre-brew features on machine

* Transparent removable bean container and water tank and a cup warmer on top

* Uses whole coffee beans or ground coffee to make coffee, espressos and cappuccinos

I highly recommend the purchase of this machine. Great reliability, easy to operate and at a very reasonable price.

I've read all the reviews and it would appear that there are a few people who have been victims of poor quality control. That's too bad because this is a great little device.

I'm one of those people who hates to read manuals and just wants to get on with the show. I'm a techie both at work and at home. If you're experienced and generally have no problems with computers and hi-fi equipment, then you should have no problems with this. I can see why the seller stated that it has a slight learning curve because the manual isn't the best or the most straightforward.

I rated 4/5 stars because for it to be perfect, I would have to have the ability to steam milk at the same time as it was brewing my espresso. This is not to say that I don't love the machine, too, though. I bought the machine to replace my routine of going to Tully's in the AM and sometimes in the PM. I'm saving at least $7 in drinks plus the gas required to get it.

Observations:

* it's loud, but if you've ever visited a Tully's or Starbucks, then you'll be used to the sounds an espresso machine makes

* it is indeed made predominantly out of plastic, but what isn't these days? for the price, I was expecting to get mostly plastic

* don't touch the chrome on the steamer! it gets very hot!

Want Espressione 1328 Cafe Dolce Aroma Digital Super-Automatic Espresso Machine Discount?

I had the same experience as the other reviewer K. Munro. My machine arrived factory sealed, but internal counter was displaying 20 cups. There were also some coffee bean scraps in the grinder. I had absolutely the same problem with machine reporting out of water problem with the full tank of water. I had to restart it every time, loosing the portion of coffee in the process. The internal timer in the machine was gaining extra 10 minutes per every half an hour of real time. Which made the display clock and autostart features useless. The grinder was choking on the lower settings. And on top of all this problems, this machine could not produce espresso. The lukewarm liquid with no creama was not comparable even with gas station coffee.

This machine is huge, absolutely humongous. It barely fits under the kitchen cabinets and in order to add beans or water its needs to be removed from under cabinets. At this time the water tray will fall down because it is nota attached to the machine at all.

I love this coffee maker..Since I've gotten it I drink more expresso than ever.. It is small though, which I didn't expect, but I've gotten used to the rich expressos I cant give it up.

I bought this to avoid using aluminum for health reasons. It is well worth the extra money. It feels very well constructed inside and out. I have used it for months now and can tell it will hold up much longer than the cheap aluminum models. I had trouble finding a single serving size so finding this was great. Trust me, buy this.

Regarding some reviews that say it doesn't sit well on the stove burners, nonsense. I have a gas stove and it works fine. Face it, it's a single serving size so it has to be small. You will need to find the right spot on your burner but that's it.

Hamilton Beach Two Way Brewer Single Serve and 12-cup Coffee Maker

Hamilton Beach Two Way Brewer Single Serve and 12-cup Coffee MakerHave had this coffeemaker for a few weeks and am extremely pleased. Very simple to operate, makes super hot coffee and love the idea of making a pot or just a mug/travel mug. The single serve side utilizes Senseo pods which are quite good and easy to find in my grocery store. You can also use non-pod coffee so options are limitless. It took me a lot of time to find the perfect coffeemaker for my household some of the reviews are scary (flooded kitchens). I absolutely love this coffeemaker and since I can also make just a cup of very hot tea, this has everything I could need.

I bought this coffee maker a few days ago to replace a dated Hamilton Beach 12 cup machine. It solved having to purchase both a new 12 cup maker and a single cup brewer such as a Keurig. The single cup brewer uses the Senseo Pods which although don't have as many varieties available as K-Cups it does produce better tasting coffee.

The single cup side is perfect for making 1 or 2 cups when you don't need to brew a full pot. The carafe is on a hot plate and will stay warm for a couple of hours before it automatically switches off.

I'm only an owner of the product for 1 day, however I have brewed 6 single serves and 1 pot and so far, it works as described.

What I really loved about this machine was/is the concept. However, when I was deciding to purchase, I thought that it required the Senseo pads for the Single cup brew as there was very little info in the product features.

After receiving it, I was pleasantly surprised that the single cup brewing contained a little permanent filter that can be used with standard coffee grinds, awesome don't need to pay for the Senseo if I don't want to. It also came with a pack of 18 senseo pads as well.

Last night was perfect test of the single cup concept. I had already programmed and prepped my 7AM standard coffee brew, however I still wanted a cup of coffee (this happens often). So I switched over to the single cup and brewed my cup, then switched back and pressed the program button to ensure it would still brew the main pot at 7am. Worked like a charm!! Before I would have had to brew the entire 6 cups that were ready, toss out most of it and setup my morning brew all over again.

So far, very happy with the product. I will adjust review / rating as required, but so far 5 stars.

Update : 12/29/2012 1 Year later

It has been a year and the machine is holding up well. No leaks, no cracks, not even surface wear. If I were to notice one thing from day 1 to day 370 is the single cup brewer puts out about 4 drips after it shuts off where as it didn't do that 6 months ago. Again, that is the ONLY thing I notice after a year of use.

We brew about 1 pot in the main craft in the morning, and at least 3 cups on the side using the permanent filter every day. If it were to break today for any reason I would say it was worth the price and would purchase again.

The Scoop was a great replacement for our worn-out Hamilton Beach. Regular brew time for the single cup is about 4 minutes. The bold is about two minutes longer. The removable plates for the single cup allows us to use a variety of cup sizes and adding water and clean up is a breeze. Have only had this for a week, but we are very please. Will let you know if we have problems later, but we are looking at another long-lasting Hamilton Beach product.

CoffeeDuck Refillable Coffee Capsules For Nespresso - 3 Pods - These Espresso Cups fit all Nespress

CoffeeDuck Refillable Coffee Capsules For Nespresso - 3 Pods - These Espresso Cups fit all Nespresso machines from after October 2010[UPDATE: Purchased Starbucks dark espresso roast and ground it fine. Packed first pod too hard--water had trouble getting through. Suggest filling pod but not packing too hard with finger due to fine grind. Second pod--perfect! It made a superb latté that tasted similar to the Nespresso Indriya or Ristretto pods (strong). I recommend short cup rather than lungo for this method.]

First of all, people who want perfect espresso should stick with the Nespresso pods. They are, simply, the best. You get what you pay for.

However, if you're like me, and need to feed your coffee habit with more than one pod/day, these refillable pods will save you a ton of money. Until Nespresso loses their exclusive patent in a few years, we'll continue to suffer with their gouging of the customer. Indeed, other coffee pod brands are available in Europe that claim to circumvent the patent but here in America, we won't know until those make their way here. (Amazon is rumored to begin marketing a cheaper Nespresso-compatible pod later in 2012.)

OK, so I ordered the Coffee Duck pods with the intention of making my own pods. After much experimentation, here are some tips:

1) The choice of coffee is paramount, so choose wisely. I've been using some leftover Costco espresso blend (intended for drip coffee makers) but it's not great. I'll be buying a bag of espresso-roast beans.

2) A burr grinder is the only way to go (mine is a Cuisinart). I tried a blade grinder but the grounds don't get fine enough. Set the grinder to 'fine'.

3) It doesn't take much grinding to get enough coffee to fill the 3 pods. I grind fresh every day.

4) With a small spoon or measuring spoon, fill the pod about half full then tamp down with your finger. Fill and tamp again. If you press too hard, the machine will have difficulty forcing water through the pod. Too light and you get weak coffee. Experiment to find what's right for you.

5) When you close the pod lid, make sure it is sealed tightly (flush) all the way around or it will leak coffee and grounds into your used pod receptacle.

6) Try to position the pod with the pod lid tab facing up and centered.

7) Experiment with short or tall (lungo) as to personal preference.

8) My used pods always fall out cleanly, I've never had a problem, probably due to #6 above.

9) I usually make lattés which for me, improves the taste.

10) Used pods pop open and clean easily under the sink faucet but can also be placed in the dishwasher.

Again, as you can read from other reviewers, this process isn't for everyone but I find it kind of fun and I'm saving money. Coffee Duck claims the pods will last a long time. They seem sturdy. I've used each pod about ten times now and I can't tell any difference from when they were brand new.

Coffee Duck pods are a good substitute when you run out of Nespresso pods or you simply want to enjoy more than one pod per day and save money.

The ordering process seems somewhat confusing due to Nespresso revising their machines in 2010. The Coffee Duck vendor automatically assumes you have a 'newer' Nespresso machine and will send the black pods that fit it. If you have an older (pre October 2010 machine), specify the BROWN Coffee Duck pods when ordering.

Highly recommended.

My husband is always looking for ways to be more efficient, so when we got our new Nespresso machine, the first thing he did was spot these refillable pods to save on having to buy from Nespresso. The pods work really great if you have a good grinder and if you have the right kind of coffee. We ended up purchasing a Cuisinart I think is the brand, coffee grinder which allows us to select the grind from very fine to very coarse (for percolators).

When we ordered our Nespresso Machine, I signed up with Nespresso as a customer and they have a first time customer order that is an excellent deal and I highly recommend it! You get a beautiful box that holds your coffees (it looks like a cigar box) and you get samples of all of their different brews.

Back to the pods... I opened up one of the Nespresso capsules to see how it was packed and I matched the grind to the lowest grinding level on my new coffee grinder mentioned above. Next comes figuring out how to fill it and pack it perfectly. If its too loose, the water goes right through and if its too tight, not enough water will get through. So packing it becomes the art form to master.

They are a little bit messy, and they are hot so if you want to brew straight away again, you have to carefully open them up. I am actually going to be purchasing a second set so that we can re-brew one right after the other. Also, with Nespresso, its convenient to have little capsules to grab & pop in, so if you pre-package your refillable capsules and have them all set to go, you will probably enjoy them more than if you have to fill them up every time you want coffee. Also the Nespresso coffee tastes better, that's not to say the refillables don't make a good espresso drink, but you have to make sure you're buying really good coffee!

That said, I will tell you that we still purchase the Nespresso brand pods, which honestly are no more expensive than where you can buy them anywhere else and being on Nespresso's mailing list, we get notified of new blends which always come as a special.

With the Nespresso pods, I can re-brew two times for a slightly stronger (and slightly larger) espresso drink... if I want to. But you can't re-brew the refillable pods, you just get one shot, which is no big deal, but thought I'd put that in my review.

I do recommend the pods, to save money. I am going to buy another set. But we use both the refillable pods and the Nespresso pods in our house.

I don't usually write reviews but I was disappointed enough with this product to review it. It takes a lot of time to get it to work right. You need to get the perfect grind and the perfect amount of espresso in each time. Once that is all done the end product is still no where near as good as the nespresso capsules. The foam or froth is not produced no mater what type of coffee is used. After many times of using this product I finally went to the nespresso website and bought 200 capsules.

If you don't mind a so so cup of espresso then this product is fine; otherwise, I would not recommend buying this

I bought the CoffeeDuck to use with my new CitiZ Nespresso machine. At first they worked quite well. After about 3 uses one of them deformed during use to the point where it became unuseable. The sides of the capsule were the problem. The other two worked fine for about 10 uses each and then in the same day they each went through the same type of deformation. It was almost as if the plastic partially melted and then hardened in the deformed shape.

I contacted CoffeeDuck twice through their online feedback form.they have yet to respond at all! This is not good customer service!.

This product works. Simply put if you are trying to save money or you like organic coffee this is your option.

First I only use fresh ground coffee. I have a conical burr grinder and I can adjust the size of the grind up to 12 different settings. This makes a big difference in the output. I will explain. I tried a bagged espresso grind that I would normally use in my stovetop percolator, something of a really coarse grind, and the Nespresso U machine created a rather weak lungo. The shot or small size was acceptable on strength but if you are getting an espresso machine chances are you like a strong pull.

I switched to my own beans ground fresh very fine, the highest I can go on my grinder. This worked, but I tamped too hard and my little machine had trouble. So adjusting I just tapped the pod on the counter to shake the coffee down. Filled up the pod and this worked better, but I could still hear the machine struggling.

Lastly I tried a few clicks in from very fine. Two to three notches down from the very fine worked best. I again just tap the pod on the counter as I fill and it keeps an even fill ensuring no gaps in the grinds. Shot to lungo this pulls a strong cup.

I would not recommend coffee beans for regular coffee. I tried them and while it works no problems, I just prefer my shots stronger. I get espresso blends, and the taste is very good.

About the crema created by nespresso pods. These will create a very thin crema that tends to dissipate within minutes. I have not had success yet in getting a crema. I will update my review if I find a trick to this.

About pods getting stuck. I have the Nespresso U, the smallest model available as of September 2012. The pods eject fine, if you insert them with the flat edge up at the 12 o'clock position. They might get caught in the downshoot at and angle, but a quick tap with your finger and they fall the rest of the way down. Not all the time, just once in a while and it's so far as I can tell of no harm to the machine.

Porlex JP-30 Stainless Steel Coffee Grinder

Porlex JP-30 Stainless Steel Coffee GrinderI used to own a german made wooden box grinder of similar price that I used for a little over 6 years, but the main problem with that grinder was that the grind was not consistent because the screw adjustment for the burr would keep moving. This was a big problem while trying to grind for my espresso machine, since inconsistent grind changes the quality of the pull in a big way.

I've been using the Porlex JP-30 every day for about two months now, and these are my impressions and comparisons with my former box grinder. First off, the locking mechanism used to adjust the grind is as advertised, it locks and doesn't change the grind on the fly. I did have to search on the web to find that the best grind position for espresso, and how to adjust the grind position (the adjustment mechanism is on the bottom of the grinder, and is the nut that "clicks" when you move it), because my Japanese isn't as great as it used to be (the manual is indeed only in Japanese). Espresso grind according to the web is two stops from the finest position. The grind has been very consistent, hasn't changed at all through use.

A few observations that might be helpful for anyone else thinking of buying this. The grinder is long and narrow, very similar ergonomically and aesthetically to a medium sized high-end pepper mill. I've had to adopt a different "technique" for grinding than my old box grinder. Essentially I use it just like a pepper mill, with both hands going in opposite directions while grinding, in order to generate enough force. This may seem like a small and insignificant thing, but for the people who want to grind directly into the portafilter or into an aeropress, and to keep the bottom of the mill stable in one place, I can imagine that it would be harder than first thought. The burrs are about half way up the side of the mill, and the bottom half of the mill separates from the top half and is the holder. I grind into the bottom of the mill.

At full capacity, the grinder will grind 4 tablespoons of espresso ground coffee. Grinding feels relatively fast or comparable with other grinders I've used.

Build quality is excellent, can't imagine that the ceramic burrs will become dull in my lifetime.

Very happy with the product in the end, would recommend it.

I can't attest to the longevity of this product as I've only had it 6 weeks. I usually wait longer before reviewing something, but I felt compelled to offer you more info. There are too few reviews available for this product.

First of all, don't be foolish like me and start cranking it seconds after unboxing. Mine came with the ceramic grinding elements closely adjusted and touching. I probably grinded a little life off of them whilst I chased the wifey around the house with it. I don't see the damage done, but something had to of been worn away. Open the grinder and back off the adjustment nut before cranking.

To adjust for a percolator grind I turn the nut back really far. The nut clicks as it is turned. It takes 8 clicks to turn the nut one revolution. Each click separates the grinding elements very little. This minute adjustability allows for fine tuning. The results are not perfect, but they are perfectly acceptable.

The ease/difficulty of cranking is determined by the coarseness of the grind and the hardness of the bean. The bean becomes more brittle as it loses moister. I roasted one batch to a black, oily, almost charcoal state. Those beans grinded very easily. A fine espresso grind is tougher to crank than a courser percolator grind because the grinding elements are closer together.

During grinding, coffee beans channel into the grinding elements well. If there is a coffee bean out there that is too large to effectively feed well, I haven't experienced it. The Kona, Guatemalan, Columbian, Ecuadorian, and Jamaican Blue Mountain beans I grinded work well.

Tidbits:

*One ceramic grinding element is fixed. The other is moveable and pushed by a spring. Time will tell if the spring can withstand the stresses put on it.

*One ceramic grinder has a plastic insert. Time will tell if the plastic can withstand the stresses put on it.

* Little plastic ridges are the source of the clicks when nut turning. Don't make a game of turning the nut and making the clicking sound. This will force undue wear on the plastics ridges.

*One US Dolllar buys about 79 Yen. The Dollar is wimpy. In 1998 a buck bought 144 Yen. Weak buck means costlier grinder.

*The grinder's top half will hold enough beans to make our (his and hers) morning coffee, and a little more. We each drink a big cup (about 12 ounces each) of liquid coffee. I grind coffee almost daily.

*The whole grinder is about 7" tall and about 1 ¾" diameter. It has a very smooth finish, making it a little difficult to hold on to. Also, the bottom half doesn't mate as securely as I would like. I find myself having to keep an eye on it and my hand placement as I'm grinding. I guess I can wear an anti-slip glove on that hand.

*Grinding manually can be too much effort for a busy person to do daily. It takes about 150-200 turns/cranks/revolutions to grind one batch. Most people will be happier purchasing a good electric grinder. As nutty as it sounds, I find the experience very rewarding. I want to be part of every coffee making step I can. I buy green and roast it myself. I'm even thinking of raising one measly, low producing coffee plant. Yes, my relationship with coffee has become very involved, almost intimate.

*This thing would be great for camping.

The Japanese Instructions claim:

*Ceramic grinders won't affect flavor of coffee, as could metal.

*Ceramic grinders won't rust, as can metal.

*Max capacity is 30 grams.

*Ceramic grinders wear very slowly.

*Easy to disassemble for cleaning.

*Can grind roasted soybeans to make kinako powder.

*Will grind espresso, fine, and coarse.

Pro's: The grinder grinds really well.

Cons: The grinder body is really hard to hold.

You have keep the grinder upright or contents fall out.

After only a month of use there is wear between the handle, which doesn't stay on very well, and the head of the grinder shaft, handle does not appear to be stainless steel (advertised as stainless) like the rest of the grinder.

Almost criminal: is the really sharp edge on the underside of the crank handle.

Quality control was asleep that day.

I will probably have to return components or unit for replacement.

I'd return this item but I'm deployed overseas where I can only receive mail but can't send any packages out.

This coffee grinder lasted exactly four cups of coffee when a bean somehow squeezed itself under the lip at the hopper bottom and dislodged the ceramic outer ring. The ring, which isn't secured in place was moved to an angle and started grinding agains the cermamic millstone. Within a few strokes of wondering what kind of super-bean I was grinding, I've chipped the serrations.

Anyways, after some messy poking and pulling, I've got the ring sitting properly again but can see this will likely be a recurring problem.

I just pulled the best shot of my life! I have been chasing a cost-effective, authentic espresso solution since returning from Italy 10 years or so ago. I invested in a Gaggia classic many years ago, but never got a good grinder. Man, I had no idea what I was missing and how much grief my grinders have caused me over the years! The first grinder was a Gaggia piece of junk, the next a well-built but not adjustable enough Kitchen Aid.

The Gaggia Classic has a reputation for being finicky about grind, but if my understanding of espresso is correct, grind is kind of all-important. On the machine side you need 9 bars of pressure and properly heated water. Pressure is pressure, however you deliver it to the grinds.

All I can say is wow. My wife immediately commented on the night-and-day difference, and she couldn't care less about how I geek out trying to get a good cup. It's so good that it will change how often we drink espresso. I guess this means that eventually I'll get tired of hand-grinding and will have to spend into the $500 range for a good motor-driven ceramic burr grinder. But until then this is absolutely wonderful. Seriously. I have to crank for a while, but it's not hard to do. I think if I loaded it up all of the way I could get enough for 2 double shots. This would mean cranking/grinding for at least a minute. But it's worth it!

I'll update this if anything eventful happens. But for now I gotta go pull another shot! Zing!

[Update] A month later I'm still grinding away and as happy as I was when I first posted this. Maybe happier because I've made shots for friends who know the difference and they raved about it. Yes, we have coffee OCD. You must have it too, or you probably wouldn't be reading this ;) The only "problem" is that the espresso is so much better than ever that now I get up early every weekday and spend 20 minutes making the four shots required to kick-start my day. Before, when I used a lousy grinder, I couldn't justify getting up early for what was coming out of my machine. Now things have flipped. The shots are so good that only a jerk would pass them over for a measly few extra minutes in bed.

If the 20 minute idea startles you, rest assured that's not because of the hand-grinder. It takes 7 or 8 minutes for the group head to warm up and that's way more than enough time to grind enough beans for four shots. It takes about two minutes to grind that much at a *leisurely* pace. I find that four shots is the capacity of this little grinder. You'll have to refill if you want more. But again, as far as I can see, if you want to move up to large capacity and an electric motor you'll need to spend $500+ to get these results.

In case you're wondering I've been using bags of Lavazza Espresso Super Crema that I got here on Amazon. I also went through a can of Illy beans with excellent results.

Black & Decker CBG100S Smartgrind Coffee Grinder, Stainless Steel

Black & Decker CBG100S Smartgrind Coffee Grinder, Stainless SteelI thought the only problem with this grinder was that it didn't grind up the beans completely until the grinder kept going even when the lid was removed! I had this grinder less than 30 days and, needless to say, it has been returned. At the speed these things grind they have to have safety features that work. It was an intermittent problem but even once is too often if you have to unplug the thing to get it to stop.

I have seen other people complain about this too. The coffee grinder sometimes keeps grinding even with the lid off. Do not buy.

This Black & Decker CBG100S Coffee Grinder needs to be recalled!

Mine worked just fine for about 6 months and then it malfunctioned the last time I used it. It ran without me pushing the on button and it continued to run without the lid in place. I think this is very dangerous! I have been using it about 4 times a week, and only for coffee beans. It had never been dropped or anything. It was clean and there is no reason for it to have done this.

I'm a weekend coffee drinker at home (get my coffee at work during the week) so I didn't need some deluxe machine. I was a little concerned that this grinder would be of good quality since it had a very reasonable price, but after it arrived and I used it I was very happy. Grinds great. You might get a couple of beans that did not grind all the way but this little grinder will give you a course or fine grind depending on how you like it. Why buy the big grinder to take up the counter space when all you need is this and when finished put it back in the cabinet where it doesn't take a lot of space to store. Great product would definitely recommend.

Want Black & Decker CBG100S Smartgrind Coffee Grinder, Stainless Steel Discount?

Read the instructions before you use it. They state explicitly to wait for the blades to stop turning before you remove the cap. They tell you multiple times to be careful because the blades are sharp. (And why shouldn't they be?) I think it's basic safety to just unplug it before you remove the grinds.

So far I have had great luck with this grinder. It is very powerful and sleek. I don't normally review products but I felt I had to pitch in my two cents because I don't think the negative reviews are justified. I would definitely recommend it. I got it for $15 at my local grocery store.

I will continue to use it and if it starts to show any decline in use or it prematurely breaks I will change my ratings to reflect that. However, so far it is serving me well.

Mr.Coffee Holder for Filter Basket

Mr.Coffee Holder for Filter BasketJunk cannot even begin to describe this product! I should have known but the price was too good to pass up, so I ordered 2, to justify paying $10 for shipping. When I opened the package, the clip had come off the handles and the cup feels like a thick plastic rather than the original metal that came with the machine. Not to mention the part was clearly not made for my machine, so now I can't use it even if I wanted to. Bottom line, don't cheap out!

does not fit my machine it sounded like it would in the the way they wrote about in when selling it on your site

KRUPS XP420050 Perfecto Pump Espresso Machine with KRUPS Precise Tamp Technology, Black

KRUPS XP420050 Perfecto Pump Espresso Machine with KRUPS Precise Tamp Technology, BlackFirst of all, I am not a shill. I'm like you; I'm an endeavours, somewhat ignorant, espresso enthusiast desperately searching Amazon for an economical espresso machine. I searched high and low for a machine that was under $200 and would not explode, soon break, or produce "weak" espresso. This machine, although lacking in reviews, fits the bill. It is sleek in appearance, efficient in start-up time (about 45 seconds), and impressive in terms of espresso strength and milk-frothing-ability (that's right, I hyphenated that).

This machine replaced our Krups Espresso Maker of 25 years. I had a good idea what I wanted in a machine and right out of the box this one filled the bill.

My inaugural espresso was better than the Krups of 25 years. Don't have any reason why but the taste was better, the creme fuller and less mess. Probably because it is a new machine and everything is better with a new toy. The tamper is pretty ingenious will probably save on coffee in the long term simply because you fill it, rotate the handle until it stops and push the coffee button. I'm going to miss tamping the coffee as with the past machine part of the process I suppose. The push button coffee cake ejector didn't work so well still tapped the holder to release it wasn't really expecting some new innovation.

Though a bit more than I would have liked to spend on an espresso machine, if it lasts as long as the previous Krups it will be well worth the investment.

As a side note the espresso this machine makes is great and it will take some serious will power to limit myself to my once a day cup of coffee.

Update: 10/22/2012

This has been a great machine ..... until the handle broke this morning. Called Krups and they were great in researching the part number (MS-622892). I found replacements at for $24.99 so I ordered two of them. The customer service rep (Stacey) at Krups mentioned they would send one out as a courtesy if they could find one. You just have to appreciate that kind of service. I just faxed them my order from Amazon and hopefully they'll come through. If not, I know there are two more coming anyway.

All in all, still really enjoy the machine, and having found a weak spot have acted accordingly.

This machine makes a great latte. My complaint is the poor design on the frothing wand. The machine originally came with lame plastic "teeth" on the removable frothing nozzle that gripped onto the metal wand. The plastic teeth broke off after a couple of months and I ordered a replacment nozzle. Krups must have figured out the poor design because the one I received as a replacement was a screw attachment instead of plastic teeth. After 3 months of use the plastic screw threads wore out and the nozzle shot into my pitcher of milk. So now I am looking at my third nozzle attachment and the machine is less than a year old.

Chemex - Chemex Bonded FP-2 Filter Paper (Designed only for Chemex CM-1) 1-3 Cups (100 count)

Chemex - Chemex Bonded FP-2 Filter Paper 1-3 CupsChemex, in my opinion, makes the best damn regular coffee. I've tried french presses, vacuum systems, etc.; Chemex 8 Cup Coffee Maker CM 8A tops them all. And it's not even the coffee maker that is the key but the filter paper. Since the Chemex system was invented by a scientist, back in the '30's, I can only assume he was using some laboratory filter paper in his shop and figured out that was what was making his coffee taste so good.

As far as I can tell, Chemex filter paper removes the slightly sour/acid taste from coffee, that I find objectionable. This, in turn, lets through the complex bitter/sweet flavors and allows me to taste them more fully.

For what it's worth, I grind my dark roasted beans right before using them, grinding 6 cups worth for wife and myself. We've also made our own ceramic coffee pots that have the same size top, to hold the Chemex filters. Works just as well as the Chemex pots. Now, if I can just find an auto-brew device that can use Chemex filters for work...

I have been using Chemex for 40 years. I wouldn't change for the world. The BEST coffeeis made with Chemex filters.

The Chemex filters were fine of course. You need a Chemex coffee carafe to use them. I highly recommend this for any coffee lover. I have the 2 cup carafe which I use to make a large mug of coffee. It's a bit more time consuming that an automatic drip method but using the Chemex makes a far superior cup of coffee. Bold coffee flavor, no bitterness, just the right temperature. I ignore my plunger pot now in favor of the Chemex...every time.

These filters really work as advertised to take some of the acids, fats, oils and bitter flavor elements from coffee. I was skeptical of the manufacturer's claim, but have been a satisfied user for many years. The filter paper is somewhat heavier than other filters. That seems to do the trick. I just wish they were less expensive.

Bialetti 6799 Moka Express 3-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker

Bialetti 6799 Moka Express 3-Cup Stovetop Espresso MakerRecently picked up a 3 cup Bialetti Moka Express while on holiday and couldn't wait to get it home and broken in. I've tried stove-top Italian coffee makers before, and this model has not disappointed.

Sturdy and well made, this unit only has about five parts, all of them metal or heavy-duty plastic so very little can go wrong. This should last ages if properly cared for.

Just remember to keep it simple; fresh, cold water in the lower chamber (stopping *before* you get to the brass outlet valve) and fill the grounds basket with an espresso grind coffee (good excuse to buy more coffee) without packing it too tightly. Place on your stovetop ring and don't go anywhere. Wait a few minutes, and you have an excellent espresso to start the day or to add to steamed milk after dinner. I can't wait to have some with a cigar this weekend. I've been trying some Cafe Bustello the last few mornings and it's been great. Yeah, I know it's canned, but so are most of the coffees in Italy and Latin America.

The only problem I can foresee is needing a larger one for company, but unless you need gallons of espresso each morning, this is great for two to share.

I bought this espresso maker while in Rome in 2004. It works great. Poe Boy is correct aluminum does not rust; it corrodes so he has E. McNair on a technicality. E. Mcnair is correct that the bottom of the coffee make will corrode and leave a white oxide inside. The solution is in proper care (I learned the hard way). Wash the coffee maker by hand, towel dry. Store unassembled. Water gets trapped in the filter and will drip into the base over time and start the corrosion. I have started doing this and the white oxide has not reappeared. So, take proper care of it.Bon Appetite

Unless you are ready to be ruined for any other coffee, and the three cup size will not be big enough! Decades of my life wasted. I've discovered real coffee so late in life, my only lament about buying this espresso pot is the tears shed over all those mornings I *could* have had REAL coffee...

Easy to use, a little time consuming to clean, handsome enough to leave out as a decoration. Unscrew the bottom, fill the bottom half with cold water, fill the little filter cup with fine ground coffee (note that "espresso" is a grind, not a roast), screw it back together, and put it on the stove top. In five minutes or less, you have the most incredible coffee ever. With the internal parts, it is not hard to clean, but time consuming, especially given the time it takes to cool off enough to take apart (the other reason to get a bigger one, the little one is too slow to reload).

The styling is a little retro, but handsome enough to lend a kitchen a quirky flair. Oh, but that's trivia next to the coffee that comes out of it.

I've been using a couple of Tchibo coffees in it with super results, and look forward to trying other fine grinds in it.

Don't do it, don't get this monkey on your back, don't ruin yourself for all those lesser coffee makers, and don't touch my espresso pot (we need alone time).

This is a beautifully designed device, but the marketing people misdescribe it. They say the "3 cup" Moka makes three 2-ounce "cups" of coffee. It fact it makes very precisely two 2-ounce "cups," not three.

When you fill the water chamber to the top (just below the coffee chamber) it holds exactly six ounces of water. But the water stops coming out as coffee when the water level in the chamber drops below the funnel mouth. This is when the machine "burbles" as people say. Then you have two ounces of water still in the water chamber, and four ounces of (quite good) coffee in the coffee chamber. That is all the coffee you will get in one brew. Two 2-ounce "cups," not three.

The engineers designed a very precise two "cup" model. But then marketing said "Hey, this takes six ounces of water! Let's tell people it makes that much coffee!" It does not.

I researched a lot of different options before buying the Bialetti Moka 3 cup, considering the single serving pod brewers and $2000 espresso makers. I'm glad I went with this $20 option. I really, really love the coffee it makes. While its not quite a true espresso, it's not far off either I even get a wee bit of crema. And I'll take this "espresso" over most of the espresso you'll find in all but the very best coffee houses here in the States. For two weeks now, I've been enjoying consistently tasty, robust coffee, very flavorful coffee. (I use Lavazza's pre-ground espresso with it. I think I prefer it to Illy, and it's cheaper.) It tastes nearly as good as what I've enjoyed in Italy. The 3 cup makes about 1.6 espresso sized cups worth.

It's easy to use. Just make sure that you screw the top on tight; don't pack the grounds, just lump them; if you're on an electric stove go with something just north of medium heat (say 6-7); and just rinse it with water to wash. Oh, and after a bit of research, I dismissed any health concerns about using the aluminum voiced by other posters. Enjoy.
