OVENTE KG82 - Cord-Free White Glass Electric Kettle 1.7L

The web site clearly indicated that this item is made in Germany. What we received was a poorly made product made in China as marked on the box and the product bottom itself. The plastic handle and cap are of poor quality plastic. The glass is supposed to be made by Schott (a high quality German manufacturer of precision instruments including surgical instruments, my sister-in-law works for Schott) but it is of lower quality than a typical coffee pot on coffee machine. In fact, the glass was not smooth, bumpy with horizontal ridges all around the kettle. Lastly, sloppy and copious application of silicon where the glass body meets the plastic top tells me that this is not made in Germany. I am not prepared to ingest lead (possibly in the glass) and BPA (in the plastic and the silicon). I wonder if this is a counterfeit item ? Disappointed, I am returning the product today.

Update 12/16/11:

Customer Service called me to explain to mix up in Product Description: Glass made in Germany, the rest made in China. She also offered to ship me another product (same one offered to shopper Rhea below). It will not meet my need (pure hot water for tea with no contact to silicon) so I declined. I wish only if someone could match good Customer Service with good product...

Something interesting to note is that the vast majority of the reviews for this product (all positive) were written on the same day (July 17, 2012), in the same engrishy style, and that this is the only product that these "different reviewers" reviewed. A reasonable person might suspect that someone with less-than-amazing english skills was hired to make a bunch of fake accounts and jack up the rating of this product. Take the other reviews and the average rating with more than a grain of salt.

The seller (Supersaver, fulfilled by Amazon) called me in response to my review, which caught me by surprise. She explained that the glass is "Made in Germany" and that the product is assembled in China, which is why the box and product says "Made in China." There was some information lost from their submission to Amazon and what actually got displayed on the product page.

They have proactive and nice customer service, though I really wasn't expecting an unsolicited phone call. She was very focused on figuring out what I was looking for in an electric kettle and wanted compensate me for any hassle ordering this product may have caused. When she'd heard that I'd already returned the product to Amazon, she even offered me a free replacement kettle (an all stainless steel model Ovente KS93 Cord-Free Brushed Stainless Steel Electric Kettle , 1.7L).

If you have doubts about this product after reading some of the reviews, you can at least rely on their customer service to aid you with any problems.

I declined the replacement kettle because I'm pretty picky about materials as well as the design, but I thought updating the review was worthwhile.

Though the listing says that the teapot is Made in Germany, the container and the box say that it was Made in China. The workmanship also displays this difference in manufacturing -a previous reviewer mentioned ripples in the glass which mine had, too. My pitcher also had adhesive exposed in the kettle itself and a couple spots of adhesive on the stainless steel plate on the inside of the kettle that was clearly just to manufacturing error.

Since I'd gotten this kettle to avoid having plastic exposed to water, having adhesive exposed and leeching into boiling water is certainly not going to work.

Not sure yet if I'll take a chance by ordering a replacement pitcher to see if I just had bad luck with a particular item or if I'll just go with a different pitcher altogether.

I would give this teakettle five stars except the pour spout needs to be redesigned. It tends to slosh while pouring. It is well made and I am happy with it.

This unit was a replacement for my Cuisinart electric kettle that died after 10 years. I've never heard of Ovente but it turned out as good or better than described. The glass is indeed made in Germany while the rest of the parts are made in China. I really like the fact that I can see the water level so I don't have to squint at a tiny level indicator or lift to feel the weight. There are indicator lights on both sides so you can set it up for right or left-handed positions. It does boil for 10-20 seconds before turning off, a bit longer than my old model, but not a particular problem. The handle is comfortable and the spout pours well as long as you don't tip too fast. All in all, it's not just a beautiful kettle but one that will function well too.

Update, June 2013:

Still working flawlessly under heavy use, still looks like new (easy to clean), and still just as beautiful. Bought more to give as gifts.

Chinook Granite Expresso Coffee Makers

UPDATE: After a year of continuous use, the paint has peeled off! It looks really bad. Maybe a year seems like a long time, but I think my previous, simple, aluminium model lasted a decade.... :o(

I wanted a stovetop espresso while staying in the USA and so bought one of these. It has a speckled grey enamel finish (or some kind of paint it is not anodized that seems to be tough and "stuck on" well). It also comes in a small black nylon pouch (I think the idea is that it is to take camping?!).

Anyway, it looks fine and works fine just the same as any other.

It's quite light an expensive Bialetti would be heavier but I imagine it will last just as long (these things seem to get damaged handles, or seals, or lost filters, before the body itself wears out in any way).

The only thing that surprised me was the sizing. I thought that the coffee maker I had owned before was "2 cup" size (this is the size I have seen them described as in the UK and in Chile). Since I could only find 1 and 3 cup sizes here, I assumed American cups must be bigger (everything is bigger in the USA right?! :o) and so ordered the 1 cup. But that is a tiny little thing, that would make one espresso cup. I then bought the 3 cup model, which appears to be size of what I have back home it makes one "teacup size" cup of coffee.

I ordered the Chinook Granite 6 Cup Maker as a Christmas present to myself and boy was I disappointed. There were metal plastic pieces inside the Coffee Maker when I first opened it. Then when I went to make myself an Espresso the water started seaping thru the gap on the top side of the handle so instead of me enjoying an Espresso my stove top got to enjoy it more...I tried to make another cup of Espresso just to make sure it wasn't me doing something wrong but the same thing happened again, the coffee would seap thru the gap near the top of the handle and no coffee was in the top part of the coffee maker therefore I am returning it to back to Amazon and gonna invest a few more bucks and get a more reputable Espresso Maker like a Bialetti rather than take this cheap deal that seems to enjoy overflowing onto my stove.

Cuisinart GTF-B Gold Tone Coffee Filter

The previous reviewer is correct about the "sediment" from the filter. Typically gold filters allow the oils and other properties of the ground bean to pass though, instead of being stuck in the paper filter. This gives a darker richer coffee. It also means you have a small "shot" of more dense coffee at the end of your cup. You can either drink it or not, some people really like the taste of the gold filter, others are used to the paper and don't like it at all. I guess it's just a matter of taste.

We found that the paper filters just wouldn't stay upright overnight in the basket, resulting in unattended surprise overflows and a great deal of "sediment" in the coffee and everywhere else. This filter is made for this model and fits like a glove, have yet to see one ground in my cups and the rest of the household has yet to declare any. As for taste, we haven't noted any true appreciable difference, even using high grades of coffee which are distinctive, nor in the occasional purchase of more standard grades of coffee beans. All in all, I give this five stars, for a number of reasons: Far easier to "change" the filter when you have just gotten out of bed, having forgotten to set the coffee timer the night before, just dump out old grounds and sleepy fumble the filter back, rather than the floppy paper ones wrangling; Environmentally friendly, self explanatory; Cost effective over long run, those paper filters add up; Never having to find yourself needing coffee but sans filter again and looking at the roll of paper towels for rescue; Saves space on counter and/or in the cupboard, as you don't have to store paper filters; Last but not least, I am so sick of trying to pick just ONE paper filter at a time out of the stack and coming out with multiples, more of that pesky fumbling, since they don't just pop out one like a Kleenex box does. So, in conclusion, very worth it and I recommend it.

We love our Cuisinart coffee grinder/maker, but the basket which holds the grounds has worn and lets a few gounds sift out into the finished coffee. I was delighted to find the part on Amazon. It fits and looks the same until you realize it is about 1/4 inch shorter than the original. Thus when brewing a full 12 cups, it is too short to contain all the coffee grounds. You end up with the same problem as with the old basket grounds in the brewed coffee, even though it is represented as fitting a 12-cup pot! Grrrh!

The filter is great and very easy to clean. It is much nicer than getting rid of a soggy, paper filter and it's environmentally friendly, too!

The only downside is that it does allow a small amount of grounds to get into the coffee. This doesn't bother me at all and I think the coffee tastes better than when I used paper filters.

I would definitely purchase this item again.

I was hesitant to get this. Anytime I ever bought an item refurbished, I always had a problem with it. (T.V.'s, DVD players etc..) I only have this Breville for 2 days. I owned at least 4 Keurigs. I always loved them. Only had a problem 1X and Keurig gladly replaced it free of charge. (after 6 months of use) I got another "Special Edition" Keurig a few days ago. It kept leaking under the base. I did not want to deal with that, so I sent it back and got the Breville. I loved the reviews and I loved the way it looked. It has a nice expensive look to it and is not as bulky looking as my Keurig was. I wanted to try something different. This looks so nice on my counter. The set up was super easy. I started brewing a cup of coffee in less than 10 min. I like the features. 5 Different cup sizes, heat adjustment, a scoop and "my kcup" built into the unit, the chrome finish.

This came in the original box and was packaged as if it was brand new. I hope it continues to work for me. It does have a 90 days warranty on it. I don't expect it to last for years. I replace my coffee pot every 2 years or so. So far I am really impressed with it. There are many variety's of KCups to use with it. I prefer decaf and my husband drinks regular. Its so convienent.
